Telscombe is situated at the end of a long winding country road which leaves the main road at Southease. The parish church, dedicated to St Laurence, is built high on a bank, with the cemetery higher still.
The church was given by King Edgar to the Abbey of Hyde, Winchester, in 966. The Norman church contains an early English arcaded font from the 13th century.
In 1933 the entire hamlet of Telscombe was bequeathed to the Brighton Corporation by Mr Ambrose Goram who had been a benefactor of the village.
The manor house has original Tudor priest holes where priest hid from to avoid persecution in the reign of Elizabeth I and which were used in later years by smugglers.
Church details, together with baptism, marriage, monumental inscription & burial records can be accessed by clicking on the church name.
