Berwick, pronounced Ber-wick, is a small village with an Early English church. The chancel contains a canopied tomb to a former rector, George Hall. It is said the marks on the tower near the font were made by thirteenth century bowmen sharpening their arrows before going to practice after church.
"Recollections of a Sussex Parson" was written by Edward Boys Ellman, Rector of Berwick.
Following major damage during the war, the church walls are now painted with 20th century murals.
Sir Horatio Bottomley the local Member of Parliament who lived in Upper Dicker was responsible for the building of Berwick station (originally Dicker Halt) to provide him with easy access to London.
Today the village still has a station on the Eastbourne to Lewes railway line.
