Post Office Directory 1851, Berwick, East Sussex


Berwick is a small parish in the Union of Eastbourne, Hundred of Longbridge, and rape of Pevensey. The village is situated on the road from Lewes to Eastbourne, distant from the latter 7 miles, and from Lewes 8 miles. The area is 1,250 acres, and the population 199, assessed at £1,502. The church, which stands upon an eminence, is a small plain structure, with a shingled spire. The benefice is a rectory, value £362 per annum, and in the patronage of J. Ellman esq.
