Will of Catherine Brazier of Hastings

Date signed: 26 Jul 1853, Probate date: 13 Apr 1854

This is the last Will and Testament of me Catherine Brazier of Hastings in the County of Sussex Widow I direct all my debts to be paid in the first place then I bequeath the legacy of Ten pounds to each of the following six societies or Charitable Institutions namely The Bible Society The Church Missionary Society the Jews Missionary Society The Saint Mary’s Hastings Girls School The Hastings Dispensary and the East Sussex Hastings and Saint Leonard Infirmary and I direct that the receipt of the Treasurer of each such society or institution for the time being shall be a sufficient discharge for such legacy And I give to my Sister Judith Wrangham Widow a Gold mourning ring which I hope she will accept in remembrance of me And I also give the following legacies namely To Jane Harris of Hove in the said County Singlewoman Five pounds To William Shoesmith of Saint Leonards in the same County Laborer Ten pounds To John son of Henry Prior of Hastings aforesaid Painter my Testament To the said Henry Prior the sum of Thirty pounds due and secured to me by the note of Mr James Cox and his sureties with any interest which may be due thereon And I also direct that the said Henry Prior be paid the full quarter’s rent which may become due to him from me on the quarter day next succeeding my decease and also the sum of Seven pounds ten shillings in addition thereto and to my dear grandson Frederick Brazier I give the legacy of fifty pounds to be paid to him or applied to his use on his attaining the age of twenty one years or at such earlier period as my Executors may think proper notwithstanding his minority and his receipt shall whether he be of full age or not be a sufficient discharge for such legacy And I give all the residue of my personal estate and all my real estate whatsoever (except Trust and Mortgage Estates) unto my Sister Jane Ward and my nephews John Sharpe James Sharpe William Henry Stunt Thomas Patye Stunt William Stunt and Robert Stunt and my nieces Ellen Stunt and Eliza Clay equally to be divided between them their respective heirs executors administrators and assigns as tenants in common And I devise and bequeath all the estates vested in me upon any trusts or by way of any mortgage with the appurtenances unto my said nephew Robert Stunt and the said Henry Prior their heirs executors administrators and assigns according to the nature of the same premises subject to the equity of redemption subsisting therein respectively but the money secured on such mortgage to be considered as part of my personal estate And I appoint my said nephew Robert Stunt and the said Henry Prior Executors of this my Will In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this twenty sixth day of July in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and fifty three Catherine Brazier
