In the name of God Amen the third day of May in the One and thirtieth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord Charles the Second by the Grace of God of England Scotland France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith etc Anno Dni 1679 I John Langridge the younger of the Parish of East Grinstead in the County of Sussex Weaver son of John Langridge the elder of East Grinstead aforesaid but sick in body but of good and perfect memory thanks be to Allmighty God do make ordain and appoint this to be my last Will and Testament in manner and form following first I bequeath my soul into the hands of Allmighty God my Creator And my body to the earth from whence it was first taken hoping for a joyful resurrection through the merits of Jesus Christ to have pardon for all my sins and to be made partaker of everlasting bliss and immortal happiness in heaven with the saints in Christ my saviour And as for the goods lands and tenements that it hath pleased God to bestow upon me I bequeath in manner following Item I give and bequeath All my lands tenements and hereditaments with the appurtenances in East Grinstead aforesaid called or known by the name of Weekes Lands and Slowfield or by whatever other name or names the same or any part thereof be called or known by containing by estimation twelve acres be the same more or less which I lately purchased of one George Drewery to my loving father John Langridge aforesaid and Alice my mother and to their heirs forever Item all the rest of my goods and chattels or whatsoever else I have I give and bequeath to my loving father John Langridge and Alice my loving mother aforesaid whom I make and appoint to be executors of this my last Will and Testament and desiring them to see my body seemingly [i.e. in “seemly” manner] buried In witness hereof I have hereunto set my hand and fixed my seal the day and year first above written containing almost one sheet of paper John Langridge his mark Read published sealed and delivered in the presence of Nicholas Cripps William Brown Susanna Cripps her mark Mary Brye her mark
