In the name of god amen. The seven and twentieth day of May in the year of our lord one thousand six hundred and fifty eight. I Thomas Holden of Chestham in the parish of Henfield in the county of Sussex yeoman make my last will and testament in manner and from that is to say first I bequeath my soul into the hands of god my maker and my body for burial. After I given and bequeath unto Elizabeth my loving wife for and during her life usage of the bedstead and seating bed now standing and being in the middle chamber within the house which I now dwell and our bed pillow and mattress bed now standing and being in the post chamber within the house with all and singular bolster pillows rugs sheets and blankets and other they unto my said bedstead and beds or of the belonging as apportioning and a pair of sheets and so my household goods as she shall hath I give and bequeath unto my son Roger forty schillings to be paid unto him, within one month after my demise. I give and bequeath unto my son Thomas Holden fifty pounds unto my daughter Mary now the wife of George Lashmer ten pounds and unto my daughter Sarah fifty pounds and my ?.... half I hereby before bequeath unto my son Thomas Holden and said daughters Mary and Sarah shall be paid within one year after my demise and that other half within two years there after my demise I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary or if and with all her children my daughter Mary has or shall bare and hand or hand of her body bound of fifteen years just after my death twenty pounds to be paid of the said fifteen years and into the child or if more in an equal proportion into her children and my ?... they in trust of the said twenty pounds until the tyme of payment shall be half yearly paid unto my said daughter Mary if she long lived or if she dies before it is to be shared now in an equal proportion unto her children at the tyme of payment of the said twenty pounds. It is my will and I here declare and bequest my son Thomas Holden or may if he please make the first payment of half of the legacy herein. I bequeath do make dwell in the house wherein I now dwelt and a shop or work here now most finally he has a shop or work in some manner as now his regard of law hath goods and my chattels and of the house and gardens and lands and tenements hereby leave for ? of years not herein or hereby bequeath after my debts and legacies’ hereby before given be paid and satisfied and bequeath unto my son Richard Holden who I make Executor of this my last will and testament and I make my loving friends William Bolney gentleman and John Langford overseers to advise and assist my said executor. This will was proved in London the fifteenth day of June in the year of our lord one thousand six hundred fifty nine before the judge for probate of wills and granting administration lawfully authorized by the oath of Richard Holden son and executor of the last will and testament of the deceased
