This is the Last Will and Testament of me John Worsley of Edward Street in Brighthelmstone in the County of Sussex nevertheless reserving to myself power and authority at all times hereafter to add unto or alter the same or any part thereof by any codicil or other writing as I shall think fit. First I direct that my body may be buried at the direction of my Executors hereinafter named I direct that all my just debts * funeral expenses and the probate and execution of this my will. (*Note in margin – to be paid out of my Estate as soon after my decease as may be convenient and subject to the payment of my just debts.) I give and bequest the whole of my goods chattels stocks funds annuities and all other my personal Estate of what nature soever unto my dear wife for and during the term of my natural life upon this express condition that my said wife so long as she shall receive any benefit from this my will do board maintain clothe and educate my grandson Joseph Worsley the natural son of my late daughter Jane Worsley deceased and from and after the decease of my said wife I give the said goods chattels stocks funds annuities and all other my personal Estate unto all my children and grandson hereinafter named to be equally parted and divided amongst them share and share alike namely John Worsley of Wadhurst in the County of Sussex Shoemaker Mary Marian wife of John Marian of Sandhurst in the County of Kent Yeoman Hannah Bacon wife of Isaac Bacon of Piddington in the County of Kent Yeoman William Worsley of Wadhurst aforesaid Shoemaker Martha Dagg wife of William Dagg of George Street in the County of Middlesex hair dresser Maria Reeves wife of George Reeves of Sandhurst aforesaid Yeoman Thomas Worsley of Brighthelmstone aforesaid carpenter Joseph Worsley of Brighthelmstone aforesaid carpenter James Worsley of Brighthelmstone baker and my said grandson Joseph Worsley the natural son of my said late daughter Jane Worsley deceased first deducting the different sums of money and interest which shall remain due to me at the time of my decease from any of my said children or my said grandson as aforesaid on their respective security or securities or the security or securities of others jointly with them or separately on their behalf from their respective share or shares and interests which they may be entitled to under this my will and I make ordain constitute and appoint my said son James Worsley Executor of this my will and I direct that he shall be allowed from time to time all reasonable expenses costs and charges whatsoever In witness whereof I John Worsley the Testator have to this my will contained in one sheet of paper set my hand and seal this twenty fourth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty one. – Jo. This is a Codicil which I direct shall be added to and taken as part of the last will and Testament hereunto annexed of me John Worsley of Brighthelmstone Baker I give and devise unto my dear wife Mary and her assigns for and during her natural life all those two freehold messuages or tenements with the ground and appurtenants thereunto belonging Nos.5 and 6 in Grosvenor Street in Brighthelmstone aforesaid she my said wife at her expense insuring the Buildings against fire and keeping the same in repair and condition and from and after the decease of my said wife I give and devise the same messuages and hereditaments unto and to the use of my son and Executor James Worsley his heirs and assigns for ever upon trust to sell the same by public or private sale and together or in lots and to convey(?) the same to the purchaser or purchasers and give receipts for the purchase money which I declare shall be effectual discharges to purchasers and that they shall not be required to see to the application thereof and as to the monies arising by such sale and the rents and profits until the premises shall be sold I direct the said James Worsley his heirs Executors and administrators to stand possessed thereof and pay apply divide and retain the same in like manner as by my will directed concerning (?) my personal Estate I ratify and confirm my said will In witness whereof I the said John Worsley the Testator hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty first day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty one – John Worsley – Signed sealed published and declared by the said John Worsley the Testator as and for a codicil to his will in the presence of us who in his presence at his request and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses – Tho. Proved at London with a codicil 17th March 1834 before the worshipful William Robinson Doctor of Laws and Surrogate by the oath of James Worsley the Son the sole Executor to whom admon was granted being first sworn duly to administer.
