This is the last will and testament of me Thomas Isted of Lewes in the County of Sussex Gent Imprimis my Soul I commend to God from whome it came and my body to be buried in the parish church of All Saints in Lewes in the said County of Sussex under my Seat there in Sure and Certain hopes of a Glorious resurrection to Life Everlasting thorough the merritts and mediation of my Most dear and Ever blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and as to what Estate the Great and Good God hath bestowed upon me I dispose of as followeth and first I devise to my Dear and Loving wife Elizabeth Isted for her Life All that my house I now Live in Situate in the Said Parish of all Saints in Lewes heretofore called the turk’s head with all the barns Stables outhouses gardens orchards and Appurtenances thereunto belonging or therewith used & enjoyed And I also give and devise unto my Said Loveing Wife all that my messuage now divided into two dwellings And all that my timber Yard orchard Garden and Other things now in the Severall Occupations of William Hillman the wid. Attree & Benjamin Collins Situate Lying and being in the Parish of St Thomas in the Cliffts neere Lewes in the Said County of Sussex and as to my Said Dwelling house and All the Appurtenances thereunto belonging by me devised to my said wife for her Life I doe after her decease give and devise the Same to my Loving Nephew John Isted one of the Sons of my Late brother Samuel Isted and to his heirs & Assigns for Ever and as to my Said messuage or tenement timber Yard orchard and Garden with their Appurtenances in the said Parish of St Thomas in the Cliffts aforesaid by me devised to my Said Wife for her life I doe after her decease give and devise the same to the Son & Daughters of my late Sister ffrances Gobly equally that shall be then Living and to their heirs & Assigns for Ever Item I doe give and bequeath to the poor and Decayed tradesmen of the Said Parish of All Saints that do not weekly receive almes five pounds to be distributed Amongst them by my Executrix within one month next after my Decease all the rest and residue of my Goods chattells and personall Estate whatsoever (my Debts Legacys and funerall Expences being first paid and discharged) I give and bequeath unto my Loveing Wife Elizabeth Isted whom I make Sole Executrix of this my Last Will and Testament and whereas I have several mortgages on Severall Mortgages Lands tenements and hereditaments which are now which are now forfeited to and now in cases the ..... be not paid on the Said Mortgages then I give and devise the Said messuages Lands tenements and Hereditaments to my Said Executrix Elizabeth Isted her heirs and Assigns for ever and I doe hereby earnestly Request and recommend to my Said wife that she do at her decease order direct & distribute to so many of my poor relations and not to any Other as she shall thinck fitt and in Such manner as She think most proper so much or Such parts of my Personall estate shall remaine in her hands and Dispossall and I do hereby revoke all other and former wills by me made and Declare this to be my Last will and Testament in Wittness whereof I have to this my Last will and testament containing three Sheets of paper set my hand & Seal to each of the Said Sheets this fourteenth day of December in the third Year of the Reign of our Soveraine Lord William by the Grace of God of great Brittain ffrance and Ireland King Defender of the faith Anno Domini 1716 Thomas Isted
