Will of John Jupp of West Chiltington

In the name of god amen the eight and twentieth day of JANUARY 1647[/8] I JOHN JUPP of CONEYHURST in the parrish of CHILTINGTON in the County of SUSSEX yeoman of whole and p[er]fect memorie (thankes bee to God) doe make this my last will and testament in manner and forme following First I bequeath my Soule unto the Almighty God my Creator and Redeemer and my bodie to be buried in Christian burial in the p[ar]ish churchyard of CHILTINGTON aforesaid.

And as touching my worldly estate and the disposing thereof my will is and I doe give and bequeath unto the poore of the p[ar]ish of CHILTINGTON aforesaid tenn shillings to bee paid And disposed at the discretion of my Executo[u]r.

Item I give & bequeath unto my sonne EDWARD the sume of Fortie pounds to bee paid w[i]thin twelve moneths after my decease

Item I give unto my sonne HENRY the like sume of Forty pounds to bee likewise paid him w[i]thin twelve moneths after my decease

Item I give unto my daughter MARY JUPP the sume of Five and thirty pounds to bee paid her w[i]thin one yeare after my decease And my will is that my Sonne JOHN to whome my lands shall Discend and come after my decease shall paie Tenn pounds yearly out of the said lands to my said two sonnes EDWARD and HENRY and to my said daughter MARY for the space of three yeares next after my decease (that is to say) to my sonne EDWARD Tenn pounds the first year to my sonne HENRY other Tenn pounds the second yeare and to my daughter MARY Tenn pounds the third yeare for the increase and bettering their portions

Item I give unto my daughter ELIZABETH twenty pounds to bee paid her w[i]th in one yeare after And my will is that my said sonne JOHN doe pay unto her Tenn pounds a yeare for the space of two years to begin next after the said former three yeares shalbee expired for the bettering and increase of her said portion

Item I give unto my sonne RICHARD twenty pounds to bee paid him w[i]th in one yeare after my decease And my will is likewise that my said sonne JOHN doe pay unto him Tenn pounds a yeare for the space of two yeares next after the said last recyted two yeares shalbee expired for the bettering alsoe and increase of his said portion

Item I give unto my daughter SUSAN Tenn pounds to bee paid w[i]th in one yeare after my decease

Item I give unto my Grandchild RICHARD KNIGHT thirty shillings to bee paid by my said sonne JOHN out of the yssues & p[ro]fitts of my said lands at such time as hee shall accomplish his age of one and twenty yeares

Item I give unto my said sonne JOHN JUPP the sume of Forty shillings to bee likewise paid w[i]th in one yeare after my decease And I give unto him more one brasse furnace the table and benches in the Hall

Item I give unto my grandchild JOHN JUPP five shillings to bee paid to him by his father out of the said lands discended as aforesaid And my further will and meaning is that if one debt of Forty pounds and above oweing by HENRIE HALER shalbee hereafter recovered by my said Executor that the said money soe received the charges of suite being first deducted shalbe equally devided amongst all my said sonnes and daughters by even and equall portions for the bettering of their sev[er]all stockes and legacies hereby formerly given and bequeathed

Item my will is that my said two sonnes EDWARD and HENRY and my said daughter MARY shall joyntlie use occupie and enjoy All & ev[er]y my said messuage and lands now in my occupacion untill Michaelmas now next ensueing w[i]thout paying any rent for the same for the bettering enabling of them to paie my debts w[hi]ch said EDWARD HENRY & MARY I doe make my whole and sole Executors of this my last will and testament to whome my debts being paid and my funeral and other expences being discharged I give and bequeath all an singuler my goods Chattells mooveables and imooveables of what nature and quality soever And in witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seale the day and yeare first above written JOHN JUPPE Signed Sealed and delivered in the p[re]sence of us RICHARD JUPPE EDWARD PENFOLD

Memorandum that I JOHN JUPP sonne and heire apparant of the said Testat[or] my father doe grant and caue to fulfill and p[er]forme all and ev[er]y thing and things within mentioned on my p[ar]te to bee fulfilled and p[er]formed and to pay further [£50] towards the paym[en]t of my said fathers debts and legacies or otherwise suffer six and fifty timber trees to bee felled cutt & avoyded now groweing and being uppon the said lands left to discend unto me JOHN JUPPEs mark
