Will of John Sharpe of Northiam

In the Name of God Amen I John Sharpe of Northiam in the County of Sussex being sick in body but of whole and perfect memory do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following revoking and disannulling all former Wills by mee made As to that Estate reall or personall wherewith God hath blessed me I devise as followeth Imprimis I Will and Devise to John Sharpe my eldest sonn All that my Messuage or ffarme with the Appurtenances called Quickburn lying in Northiam in the County of Sussex to him and his heirs for ever under the Conditions and lymitations hereafter specified that is to say upon Condition that he shall and doe Within Six Months after he shall attain the Age of Twenty one yeares by ffine or other good conveyance and Assurance in the Law to convey and assure unto Mary Sharpe his Sister All those Lands Tenements and Hereditaments lying in Beneden and Ewhurst which was her Mothers To have and to hold to the said Mary and her heires for ever and that untill such Conveyance be made as directed he shall allow and pay her the said Mary for her present maintenance the Sume of Eighteen Pounds yearly and every year at Lady and Mich: the first payment to be made at either of the said ffeasts which shall first happen after my decease Item I give to Thomas Sharpe my younger sonne All that my Lands and Hereditaments lying in Sandhurst and Newenden or either of them And also all that tenement or farm lying in Rolvenden lately by me purchased of Mr floyd To have and to hold the said Lands and Tenements the one Moiety to him and his Heires in present possession and as to the other Moiety to him and his Heires from and after the decease of Jane my wife Upon condition nevertheless that he shall and doe Surrender according to the Custom of the Mannor of Robertsbridge all that Coppyhold Tenement with the Appurtenances wherein I now dwell for the use of Jane my Wife for and dureing the terme of her naturall life and the said John and his heires after her decease to the use of John Sharpe my eldest son and his heires for ever and that untill such time as the said Surrender be fully made and perfected that he permitt and suffer the said Jane my wife dureing her life and the said John and his heires after her decease to receive and take the rents and profits of the said Tenement and Lands to her his or their own proper use and behoove without any lett or trouble from the said Thomas and his heires Item I give to my two other daughters Jane and Katherin Three hundred pounds to each of them to be paid at their severall and respective ages of Twenty one yeares or day of marriage which shall first happen and in case either of them dye before they attaine the said age or be married then the Survivor of them to have the whole Sume and in case both dye before such time then the whole six hundred pounds to be paid to Mary my eldest Daughter Item whereas I doubt that my personall Estate will not amount to the full payment of the Legacies above mentioned My mind and will is that soe much Timber and wood shall be felled and sold from my Land in Sandhurst as shall amount to Two hundred pounds but if it shall happen that my Marsh Land shall amount to the yearly rent of ffourty pounds beyond all charged and reprized Then my will is that my son John shall pay the sume of one hundred pounds and the other Hundred pounds only to be raised by the sale of wood and timber from my Land at Sandhurst and noe more Item my mind and Will is that dureing the severall Minorities of John and Mary my Children the severall rents and profitts of the Lands and Tenements to them herein devised shall be from time to time received and taken by Thomas frewen Esq and in case he dye before they attaine their severall ages then by Edward ffrewn his sonne by them or one of them to be imployed in the Education of the said John and Mary according to the intent and meaning of this my Will Item I give to Elizabeth Roots my Sister’s daughter the sume of ffifteen pounds for the putting her out to some Trade or imployment for the gaining of an honest livelyhood Item I give to my deare Jane Sharpe all that Coppyhold Tenement and Lands wherein I now live and the Moiety of those my Lands in Sandhurst and Newenden and that farme at Rolvenden lately by me purchased of Mr ffloyd for the terme of her naturall life and doe make the said Jane sole Executrix of this my last Willa and Testament John Sharpe Signed sealed and published as the last Will and Testament of mee the said John Sharpe the Tenth day of february Anno 1682 in the presence of us: Ric Soames George Mathews the marke of Richard Boys
