His Majesty the KING has been graciously pleased to approve of the award of the Distinguished Conduct Medal to the undermentioned Warrant Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers, and Men for gallantry and distinguished service in the Field :— G/836 Sjt. E. J. Head, 7th Bn. , E, Sussex R. (Uckfield). For gallantry near Becordel Becourt on 24th August, 1918. He took out a parry of six men to investigate a suspected machine-gun position. In spite of heavy machine-gun fire from, the flank he succeeded in making his way to the desired spot, from which he brought back fifteen prisoners. At Carnoy on the 26th August, 1918, he continually organised bombing parties and succeeded in clearing several enemy bombing parties out of some trenches. When the enemy were trying to bomb us out again, he held them up, and then rushing forward, killed four men, dispersing the rest with a captured revolver and machine gun.
