Will of Thomas Arkcoll of Herstmonceux

In the name of God Amen I Thomas Arkcoll of Herstmonceux in the county of Sussex yeoman, being infirm but of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding, thanks be given to almighty God for the same, do make and ordain this, my last will and testament in manner and form following – First and pemtupally I bequeath my soul unto the hand of almighty God my creator losing (?) thro’ the motorius death and passion of his dearly beloved son Jesus Christ my redeemer to have commission of my soul and be made partaker of life everlasting and my body I commit to the earth to be devoutly buried at the discretion of my executor hereafter named and as for touching and containing all that real and personal estate which it hath pleased Almighty God to bestow upon me I give, devise and bequeath thereof in manner and form following that is to say Impris I give and devise all that my copyhold messuage or tenement, barn, buildings and several parts or parcels of land containing by estimation five and twenty acres whether of the same there be more or less situate, lying or being in Horstmonceux aforesaid called or known by the name of Hogbans or by whatsoever other name or names the same or any part or parcel thereof are or is called or known now in my own occupation and all other my messuages, lands and tenements in Horstmonceux aforesaid and which I have heretofore surrounded into the hands of the Lord of the Manor of Horstmonceux to use of my last will and testament unto my son Thomas Arkcoll and his assigns for and during the term of his natural life and from and after his decease then unto my grandson Thomas Arkcoll his issues and assigns to have and to hold the said messuage, lands and premises aforesaid with the appurtenances unto my said son Thomas Arkcoll and his assigns for and during the term of his natural life and from and after his decease then unto my said grandson Thomas Arkcoll his issues and assigns forever –

Item – I give and bequeath unto my said grandson Thomas Arkcoll the sum of one hundred pounds of lawful money of Great Britain paid unto him by my executor herein aforenamed within twelve months after my decease –

Item – I give unto my son in law Robert Rosam the sum of ten pounds of like lawful money to be paid unto him by my executor hereafter named within twelve months after my decease –

Item – I give and bequeath unto my granddaughters Martha and Elizabeth Arkcoll the sum of twenty pounds a piece to be paid unto them at their respective ages of one and twenty years by my executor hereafter named –

Item – I give and bequeath unto my granddaughter Elizabeth Rosam the sum of twenty pounds of like lawful money to be paid unto her by my executor hereafter named at her age of one and twenty years –

Item – I give and bequeath unto my grandchildren Robert Rosam, Mary Rosam and William Rosam the sum of ten pounds a piece of like lawful money to be paid unto them by my executor hereafter named at their respective ages of one and twenty years –

Item – All the rest, residue and remainder of my personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever after my debts (?) and funeral expenses are paid, discharged and satisfied I give and bequeath unto my said son Thomas Arkcoll whom I make, nominate constitute and appoint sole executor of this my last will and testament, and I do hereby revoke disannul and make void all former and other wills and testaments by me heretofore made and do hereby declare this and only this to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I the said Thomas Arkcoll the testator have to this my last will and testament contained in two sheets of paper set my hand and seal to each sheet hereof this three and twentieth day of October in the sixth year of the reign of king George the second over Great Britain Ann Dom 1732.

Signed, sealed and published and declared by the said testator Thomas Arkcoll as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who have subscribed our names as witnesses hereto in the presence of the said testator.
