Harrison's description (1911):

ST. GILES. Restored and enlarged in 1884. This church, with its lofty shingled spire was originally a Nor. cruciform building with central tower, which with its piers and a walled up arch alone remains of it; the rest being E.E. Outside N. wall of nave is a piscina indicating where the transept has been. There is a small cross-legged effigy of a knoght in armour (a crusader), and several tablets. Dr. Robert Leighton, Archbishop of Glasgow, was buried in the chapel in the south of the chancel in 1684, but this part of the church has since disappeared, and a tomb was erected over his place of burial in 1857. The slab, which bore a Latin inscription, is on the outside of the chancel wall. Reg. 1600.
