Notes: Encouraged by the town mayor elect, William Epps Morrison, mobs, a 'skeleton army' and the police attacked and victimised the Salvation Army as they sought to preach in the streets of Worthing. Many were arrested, fined and imprisoned. Fortunately the High Court and the Home Secretary finally brought to an end this appalling episode in the town's history.
