Notes: The Pre-Norman Church at Worth, Sussex. In Sussex, that county of Saxon relics, Worth Church is one of the few in England that preserves its Saxon foundations. Built between 930 and 1035, it is a noteworthy example of the pre-Conquest cruciform church. In the Saxon minster the double windows of the nave are divided by balusters and the long and short pilaster strips are typical of the period. One sees the advent of the ruder Norman style in the chance arch, imposing in its 22 feet of height. The Church stands a remote treasure, in beautifully wooded country.
