Notes: Legend has it that Dick Turpin stayed for a brief time at a cottage on Haywards Heath. Sadly, despite the name, no documentary evidence has yet been found to link this ancient white-washed cottage with this infamous highwayman. Situated at the northern end of Paddock Hall Road, it was once owned by Peter Parsons, a confectionery seller. The cottage was demolished shortly before 1887 when the Police Station was built on the site.
