St. Nicholas' Church is a beautiful Saxon Minster dating from the late tenth century which is internationally famous for its architecture. It has a fabulous Saxon chancel arch. It is interesting to note that the 1840 Pigot directory described this building as "inelegant" - how tastes have changed!
The building suffered a terrible fire in 1986, but has been fully restored.
