Instructions for searching the Sussex OPC index of households (schedules)

Bored enumerator indicating census returns

Use the controls above to select the household or schedule you wish to see. Information will appear in the drop down choices only when data is available.

Remember that this browser only shows information contained in the OPC database, there may be census return data available on other linked web sites, only available from the individual parish or church pages.

If the transcriber has recorded the schedule (household) breaks which are normally indicated by a dash under the surname of the last member of the household there could be more than one household at a property within the database. If not, everyone at a property is considered to be in the same household. The OPC database assigns a unique number, in enumeration order, to each schedule within the enumeration district and adds the first surname encountered within the household in order to create a schedule name - this may or may not be the the head of the household.

Please note that information added in the past may not have this schedule name, we are slowly going back to add the information as time permits.

In the (optional) name, you may use a '*' for a wildcard in the name to be searched for, e.g. '*smith*' will return households with smith in their name.

We welcome additions to this database, although for maintenance reasons we can only accept complete enumeration districts for census returns. So please support us and send them in.

Your feedback on the operation of this site and details of any problems encountered in its use is welcomed.
