Bosham - a village by the sea.
This is the fifth local history book that Angela Bromley-Martin has written about the Chichester area of West Sussex. ‘Bosham - a village by the sea’ is a comprehensive record of all that has happened in Bosham in the last two thousand years.
It is an amusing and carefully researched history of the people, the houses in which they
lived, their daily occupations, the pubs which were for so long a hub of social life - and the schools which set them on their way.
This book has been thirty years in the making
and includes fascinating glimpses into the nineteenth century as well as a historical perspective on the two world wars.
On a lighter note there are local legends and ghost stories and, Bosham being a very old settlement, known to the Romans, the book details several interesting and not always explicable anecdotes.
All in all this is a detailed and exhaustive chronicle of old and new Bosham and one which the amateur historian or interested villager alike will treasure for many years to come.
