Harrison's description (1911):

ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST. Restored in 1893. The Saxon chancel arch is the attraction to archæologists. It has bold half-round moulding; the abacus is massive and chamfered. On each side of this arch is a semi-circular recess. The chancel is 13th c. work (E.E.), with triple lancets at E. end and round window over. There is a blocked-up arch in N. and S. walls of nave. Windows: - lancets in chancel, with head of a King and a Queen on hood moulding; Dec. in nave. N. doorway and dor are old. One bell is pre-Reformation. On S. wall of chancel is brass of a priest holding chalice and wafer, with inscription (1523). The mural paintings, representing the Doom, are very interesting. Note: brass on floor at W. end; oak panelling, seats and beams.
