The 14th century church in Etchingham is dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Mary and St Nicholas. It was built in the grounds of a moated manor owned by Sir William de Echyngham, and indeed the remains of the moat can still be seen. The building has had extensive repairs over the years to counter subsidence, perhaps caused by the drying out of the moat. These repairs included filling the vaults below the church with concrete (after the coffins had been reburied in the churchyard) in the early years of the twentieth century.
Church details, together with baptism, marriage, monumental inscription & burial records can be accessed by clicking on the church name.
