The small commmunity of Tortington owes its roots to the Augustinian Priory which was founded here in the middle of the 12th century.

The church was probably built in about 1140 to serve the small community of lay tenants.

Although no longer used for regular worship, the church remains consecrated and is in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust.
