Parish picture

Rottingdean is an ancient Anglo-Saxon settlement and there may have been an earlier church on this site, however, following the Norman conquest, William de Warrenne, to whom the village of Rottingdean and adjoining land was granted, gave funds to rebuild the church in flint and Caen sandstone.

The seven stained glass windows in the chancel and tower are the glory of the church. They were made by the Pre-Raphaelite William Morris & Co from the designs of Sir Edward Burne-Jones and are generally recognised to be some of their finest work.

Parish picture

There is a fine view of Rottingdean windmill form the front of the church. The mill is a black Smock Mill believed to date from 1802, which milled until 1881. She now stands as a major landmark on the Downs on the coast road to Brighton, overlooking a pitch & putt golf course.
