Notes:

First church was a gothic building by James Burton with a 15th century south west tower. It was extensively restored by John Billing of London in 1862 but destroyed by German bombing in 1944.
On the night of Saturday 29th July, 1944, a V1 flying bomb (Doodlebug) was hit at sea. After veering towards the town, it finally crashed in front of the doors of St Leonard's Church, making a sixteen foot crater, bringing down the tower and demolishing the chruch. There were no casualties.
The pulpit in the existing building is in the form of a Galilean fishing boat.
