In the name of God Amen I William Blaker of Buckingham in the parish of Old Shoreham in the County of Sussex Esqr being of good health of body and of perfect mind memory and understanding thanks be to God for the same do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and forme followeing that is to say. First I bequeath my soul into the hands of Allmighty God my creatour trusting and assuredly beleiving in and thro the death and passion of Jesus Christ my Saviour and Redeemer to inherit eternal bliss and happiness in the Kingdome of Heaven and my body I commit to the earth to be decently buryed in the parish church of Old Shoreham at the discretion of my executor and overseers hereafter named and as for that worldly estate which God hath bestowed upon me I give and bequeath the same as followeth. Item I desire that all my just debts legacys and funerall charges be truly and duly paid and discharged. Item I give and bequeath unto my loving and dear wife Mabella (over and besides the jointure I have already made her) one annuity or yearly rent charge of fifty pounds by the year to be issueing and paid out of the rents issues and profits of all my messuages lands and tenements whatsoever within the County of Sussex to be paid unto my said loving wife Mabella or her assigns during all the time she keepeth hereselfe a widow at four quarterly payments in the year that is to say at the feast of the Nativity of our Lord Christ the Annunciation of our blessed Virgin Mary St John the Baptist and Saint Michael the Arch Angel by even and equal portions the first payment to begin at the first of the said feasts which shall happen after my decease and if it shall happen that the said annuity or yearly rent charge of fifty pounds by the year or any part thereof to be behind or unpaid by the space of thirty days next after any of the said feast days or days of payment on which the same ought to be paid as aforesaid that then it shall and may be lawful to and for my said loving wife Mabella or her assigns to enter and distreyne upon any part of my said messuages lands and tenements for the said rent and the arrearages thereof if any be and the same to detayne impound and keep until payment thereof be made with the charges in making and taking such distress but if my said loving wife Mabella shall marry then my will and meaning is that from and after such her said marriage the said annuity or yearly rent charge of fifty pounds per annum shall cease determine and be utterly void any thing herein conteined to the contrary notwithstanding. Item I give devise and bequeath unto my loving grandson William Monke and his heirs all my Mannours messuages lands tenements and hereditaments whatsoever lyeing and being in the said County of Sussex or elsewhere in the Kingdome of England to have and to hold all my said Mannours messuages lands tenements and hereditaments whatsoever unto my said grandson William Monke his heirs and assigns for ever but if my said grandson William Monke shall happen to dye without issue of his body lawfully begotten or before he shall attain to his full age of one and twenty years then I give devise and bequeath all my said Mannours messuages lands tenements and hereditaments whatsoever unto my grand daughter Barbara Monke and her heirs to have and to hold all my said Mannours messuages lands tenements and hereditaments whatsoever unto my said grand daughter Barbara Monke her heirs and assigns for ever. Item I give and bequeath unto my said grand daughter Barbara Monke fifteen hundred pounds of lawful money of England to be raised and paid by my executor hereafter named out of my messuage lands and premises called Buckingham when she shall attain to her full age of one and twenty years or day of marriage which shall first happen. And if I shall happen to dye before my said grand daughter Barbarah Monke shall attain to her said age of one and twenty years or day of marriage then I give and bequeath unto my said grand daughter Barbara Monke the sum of fifty pounds per annum to be raised and paid unto her by my executor hereafter named by quarterly payments out of my said messuage lands and premises called Buckingham until she shall come to or attaine her said age of one and twenty years or day of marriage for her maintenance at school or elsewhere as she shall think fit and if my executor hereafter named do not pay my said grand daughter Barbara Monke the said sum of fifteen hundred pounds herein given and bequeathed unto her when she shall attaine to her full age of one and twenty years or day of marriage which shall first happen that them my executor hereinafter named shall pay interest (or the said fifteen hundred pounds at the rate of four pounds per cent and the annuity of fifty pounds per annum herein bequeathed unto my said grand daughter Barbara Monke is to cease. Item I give and bequeath unto Anne Monke and Frances Monke daughters of my son in lawe John Monke by my dear neice Frances his wife the sum of five hundred pounds apeice to be raised and paid to them by my executor hereafter named out of my said messuage lands and premises called Buckingham at their severall ages of one and twenty years or days of marriage which shall first happen. And if either of them shall dye before they shall attain to their full age of one and twenty years or days of marriage then the five hundred pounds portion of her dyeing shall be paid to the survivor and if the said Anne Monke and Frances Monke shall both dye before they shall attaine their said ages of one and twenty years or days of marriage then I give and bequeath the said legacyes of five hundred pounds apeice to my said loving grandson William Monke and if it shall happen that my neice Frances Monke shall dye and leave her said children Anne and Frances before they shall atteine to their full age of one and twenty years or days of marriage then I give and bequeath to the said Anne and Frances and my will and meaning is that my executor hereafter named shall pay unto the said Anne and Frances the sum of twenty pounds a year out of my said messuage and premises called Buckingham being interest of their legacyes of five hundred pounds at four pounds per centum until they shall attaine their severall ages of one and twenty years for their maintenance and education. Item I give and bequeath unto my Godson William Bridges son of my brother in law William Bridges of London linnen draper the sum of twenty pounds of lawful money of England to be paid unto him by my executor hereinafter named within one year after my decease. And my further will and meaning is that if my said grandson William Monke and my said grand daughter Barbarah Monke shall both happen to dye before they shall atteine to their full ages of one and twenty years or without issue of their or one of their bodyes lawfully begotten that then I give devise and bequeath all my said Mannors messuages land tenements and hereditaments whatsoever unto my loving Godson William Bridges son of my said brother in law William Bridges of London linnen draper and to his heirs to have and to hold all my said Mannours messuages lands tenements and hereditaments whatsoever unto my said Godson William Bridges his heirs and assigns for ever. And my further will and meaning is that if my said Mannors messuages lands tenements and hereditaments shall come to be enjoyed by my said Godson William Bridges and his heirs then my further will and meaning is and I doe hereby give and bequeath unto the said Anne Monke and Frances Monke the sum of one thousand pounds apeice over and besides the five hundred pounds apeice hereinbefore given and bequeathed to them to make their portions fifteen hundred pounds apeice to be raised and paid to them by the said William Bridges out of all my said Mannours messuages lands tenements and hereditaments whatsoever at their several ages of one and twenty years or days of marriage which shall first happen and if either of them happen to dye before their said ages of one and twenty years or days of marriage then I give and bequeath the portion of her so dyeing to the survivor of them and for the better maintenance and education of the said Anne Monke and Frances Monke before they shall attain to their severall ages of one and twenty years or days of marriage in case my said estate shall come to my said Godson William Bridges I give and bequeath to each of them the sum of fifty pounds by the year for keeping them at board and schoole to be paid by quarterly payments by my said Godson William Bridges. Item whereas my said grandson William Monke is now a minor and if I should happen to dye during such his minority my said capital messuage and premises called Buckingham will goe to decay and be very much out of repaire unless inhabited and the goods and furniture therein will be very much dampnified and spoiled for want of using which I am sensible will very much tend to the prejudice of my said grandson therefore I give and bequeath my said capitol messuage with the gardens orchard stables and pidgeon house thereunto belonging and the use of all my household goods to my said neice Frances Monke to be by her enjoyed until my said grandson shall attain his full age of one and twenty years or day of marriage which shall first happen. And I do hereby further give and bequeath unto my said neice the sum of one hundred pounds per annum to be paid to her from and after my decease out of the rents and profits of all my said Mannours messuages lands tenements and hereditaments by quarterly payments till my said grandson William Monke shall attaine his said age of one and twenty years or day of marriage which shall first happen the better to enable her to keep house and to board my said grandson William Monke during his said minority. Item I give to the poor of the severall parishes of Old Shoreham and Southweeke the sum of forty shillings apeice. Item all the rest of my personall estate goods chattles cattle household stuff and all other things whatsoever I give and bequeath unto my said loving grandson William Monke whome I make full and sole executor of this my last Will and Testament desiring him as he expects a blessing from the Great Creatour and preserver of mankind to be punctual in performing this my last Will and Testament and payeing the legacyes by me herein given and I doe hereby nominate and appoint my very loving friend Peter Courthope of .anny Esqr and my said dear neice Frances Monke to be overseers and guardians to my said grandson William Monke during his minority and do give each of them five guineas apeice for and towards their pains and care therein. And lastly I do hereby revoake annull and make void all former and other Wills by me made. In witness whereof I the said William Blaker have to this my last Will and Testament sett my hand and seal this seven and twentyeth day of August in the second year of the reigne of our Sovereigne Lady Anne by the grace of God of England Scotland France and Ireland Queen defender of the faith &c Annoque Domini one thousand seven hundred and three.
