Will of Thomas Durrant of Little Horsted

In the name of God Amen I Thomas Durant of Little Horsted in the County of Sussex yeoman being sick and weake in body but of sound and pfect mind and memory thanks be to God do make and ordaine this my last will and Testament in manner and forme following revokeing and hereby disanulling all former wills by me at any time heretofore made & published. And first and principally I commend my soul into the hands of Almighty God hopeing for remission of my sins and eternall life through the infinite merritts and satisfaction of Jesus Christ my Saviour. And my body I committ to the earth to be decently buryed at the discretion of my executors hereafter named. And as touching such personall estate as it hath pleased God to blesse me withall my will and meaning is that it shall be disposed of in manner and form following. And first I give and bequeath unto my sonn William Durant the summe of twenty and five pounds of lawfull money of England to be paid unto him at his age of one and twenty years if he shall so long live. Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Mary* Durant five pounds of like lawfull money to be paid to her at seven years end after my decease if she shall so long live. Item in case Mary my wife shall not after my decease think fitt to cohabit or dwell with my executors or either of them or that they or either of them should not p’mitt or think fitt that she should continue and inhabitt wth them then my will and meaning is yt my executors shall and doe well and truely pay or cause to be paid unto my said wife the yearly sum of twenty shillings of like lawfull money by half yearly payments for and during such time of her naturall life as she shall not cohabitt with or one of them the first paym’t payment to begin at the first half years end that shall happen next after her going from them. And lastly I doe hereby nominate and appoint my sons Thomas and John Durrant to be joynt executors of this my last will and Testam’t to whome I give & bequeath all the of my goods & chattles rights and creditts my debts legacies and funerall expences being first paid & discharged. In witnesse whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seale this first day of June in the eight year of the reigne of our Sovereigne Lord William the third by ye Grace of God of England Scotland France & Ireland King defender of the faith &c Annoq Dom 1696. (Latin) The Will of Thomas Durrant of Horsted 18 April 1698 was proved before Thomas Whalley, Surrogate by Thomas Durrant & John Durrant the executors named in the said Will to whom admon was granted.
