Whitehall, November 16, 1822. WHEREAS it hath been humbly represented unto the King, that, in the night of Tuesday the 5th instant, some evil-disposed person or persons, did willfully and maliciously set fire to and destroy a certain stack of hay or straw, the flames from which communicated with and destroyed other stacks of hay and straw, on the premises of the Reverend Dr. Lord, in the parish of Northiam, in the county of Sussex; His Majesty, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the persons concerned in the felony above mentioned, is hereby pleased, to promise His most gracious pardon to any one of them (except the person who actually set fire to the said stack), who shall discover his accomplice or accomplices therein, so that he, she, or they may be apprehended and convicted thereof. ROBERT PEEL. And, as a further encouragement, a reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS is hereby offered by the inhabitants of Northiam aforesaid, to any person (except as aforesaid) who shall discover the said offender or offenders, so that, he, she, or they may be apprehended and convicted of the said offence, — The said reward to be paid, on conviction, by Messrs. Curteis, Croughton, and Co. bankers, Rye, in the said county.
