In the Name of God Amen I ISAAC HAM[M]OND of GAY STREET in the parish of WEST CHILTINGTON in the County of Sussex Yeoman being Sick and Weak in Body but of sound and perfect Mind Memory and Understanding (Praised be Almighty God for the same) Do hereby make and Declare this to be my last Will and Testament in manner and Form Following (that is to say) First and principally I Recom[m]end my Soul to Almighty God my Creator Trusting and Assuredly believing thro the Meritts Death and Passion of Jesus Christ my Redeemer to Obtain perfect Remission of all my Sins in the World to come my Body I comit to the Earth to be decently buriedat as small Expense as may be in some convenient place in the Church Yard of the parish of WEST CHILTINGTON aforesaid And to have my Grave Steaned [?] up and an Arch turned over the same And as to the Estate wherewith it hath pleased God of his infinite Goodness to bestow on me in this life I give and dispose thereof as followeth (that is to say)

First I give and bequeath unto my Cozen THOMAS BENNETT of STREAM FARM in the parish of PULBOROUGH in the said County Yeoman the Sum of Fifty Pounds of lawfull money of Great Britain to be paid him by my Executor hereinafter appointed within Six Months next after my Decease

Also I give and bequeath unto SUSAN ELIZABETH and JOYCE Daughters of my Sister MARY UPPERTON the Sum of Fifty Pounds apiece of like lawfull money to be paid them respectively by my Executor within Six Months next after my Decease

Also I give and bequeath unto MARY wife of JOHN BROWNE of BEPTON in the said County the Sum of Fifty Pounds of like lawfull money to be paid her into her own Hands by my said Executor within Six Months next after my Decease for her own private and separate use and benefit and to be at her own Free Will and disposal without the controul or contradiction of her present or any future Husband And her Receipt or Release to be a sufficient discharge to my Executor for the same without her Husband it being my Intention he should have nothing to do or intermeddle therewith.

Also I give and bequeath unto the said JOHN BROWNE The Sum of Fifty Pounds to be paid him by my said Executor within Six Months next after my Decease

Also I give and bequeath unto my Brother in Law EDMUND SAIRES the Sum of Fifty Pounds to be [paid] him by my said Executor in manner following (that is to say) the Sum of Five pounds every half year during his natural life but if he shall happen to dye before that Sum be exhausted and paid Then and in such case I give and bequeath the remainder of such Sum so unpaid to my Couzen SUSAN SLATER Spinster

Also I give and bequeath unto THOMAS SAIRES Son of the said EDMUND SAIRES the Sum of Fifty Pounds to be paid him by my said Executor within Six Months next after my Decease

Also I give unto JOHN SAIRES of ASHINGTON in the said County Butcher the Sum of One Hundred and Five Pounds of like lawfull moneyto be paid unto him by my said Executor within Six Months next after my Decease together with all my Wearing Apparell of what nature or kindsoever

Also I give and bequeath unto my Cozen EDMUND SAIRES the Sum of Fifty Pounds of like lawfull money to be paid him by my said Executor within Six Months next after my Decease

Also I give and bequeath unto ELIZABETH the wife of WILLIAM BOWLEY of SHIPLEY in the County Carpenter the Sum of Fifty Pounds of like lawfull money to be paid into his Hands by my said Executor within Six Months next after my Decease for her own private and separate use and benefit without the Controul or contradiction of her present or future Husband And her Receipt or Release alone to be a sufficient discharge for the same without her Husband It being my intention he should have nothing to do or Intermeddle therewith

Also I give and bequeath unto my Cousin THOMAS HAM[M]OND of WEST CHILTINGTON aforesaid the Sum of Five Pounds to be paid him by my said Executor within Six Months next after my Decease And also the further Sum of Five Pounds a year to be paid him every year during his natural life

Also I give and bequeath unto JANE Wife of JOSEPH FULLER of ITCHINGFIELD in the said County the Sum of Five Pounds of like lawfull money to be paid her by my said Executor within Six Months next after my Decease And also the further Sum of Five Pounds a year during her natural life

Also I give and bequeath unto BETTY Wife of RICHARD MILLS of ITCHINGFIELD aforesaid the Sum of Five Pounds to be paid her within Six Months next after my Decease And also the Sum of Five Pounds a year to be paid her Yearly and every year during her natural life

Also I give devise and bequeath unto CLEMENT UPPERTON of BURY in the said County Yeoman All that my Customary or Copyhold Messuage or Tenement Malthouse Garden and Croft of Land thereto belonging lying in WEST CHILTINGTON aforesaid now in my own occupation And also all that my Customary or Copyhold Barn Buildings and certain customary or Copyhold Lands thereunto belonging containing Thirty Acres more or less lying in WESTCHILTINGTON aforesaid in my own occupation called or known by the Name or Names of COLYERS and HOOKHILL or any other Name whatsoever And all other my Lands and Tenements lying in WESTCHILTINGTON aforesaid Together with all privileges Advantages and Apperten[an]ces thereunto belonging To hold the same and every part and parcell thereof with the Apperten[an]ces unto the said CLEMENT UPPERTON his Heirs and Assigns according to the Custom of the Mannor under which the same are holden I having heretofore Surrendered the same to the Use of my last Will and Testament And do hereby Declare the uses thereof to be accordingly.

Also I give and bequeath unto my Cousin the said SUSAN SLATER the Sum of Five Hundred Pounds of like lawfull money to be paid her by my said Executor within Six Months next after my Decease And also the further Sum of Two Hundred Pounds if she shall Marry with CLEMENY UPPERTON son of the said CLEMENT UPPERTON or WILLIAM BENNETT Son of the said THOMAS BENNETT to be paid her within Six Months next after such Marriage or to or with any other person with any competent Fortune Also I give and bequeath unto the said SUSAN SLATER all my Setts or Parcells of China Ware with the Tea Kettle Silver Tea Spoons & Tongs Cream Pott and every thing belonging to the Tea Equipage Three large Silver Spoons Two Silver Salts and Spoons my Bay Gelding to be kept by my Executor untill She Marry The Bedd and all belonging to it and all other Furniture in the Hall Chamber Ten Bushells of good Wheat Three pair of good Sheets the use of the Chamber or Garrett where she now lodges and the Furniture thereof and of the Hall and New Room or Pantry And also One Moiety or half part of all my Liquors and Provisions whatsoever Except such Liquor as I have hereinafter given to my Cousin JOHN HAM[M]OND And also all the ready money that I shall happen to have by me at the Time of my Decease Also I give and bequeath unto the said SUSAN SLATER and JOHN HAM[M]OND One Moiety or half part of my Meat Wood and Faggotts that I shall have in or about my Dwellinghouse at the time of my Decease equally to be divided between them share and share alike Also I give and bequeath unto the said JOHN HAM[M]OND the Sum of Five Pounds to be paid him by my said Executor within Ten Days next after my Decease And also Ten Bushells of good Wheat Two Barrells of Strong Beer of Forty Gallons each and Two Firkins of Ale and the use of the Chamber where he now Lodges and the Bed and Furniture here Two pair of Sheets and of the Kitching and utensills there for the Term of his natural life And if any Dispute or Difference shall happen to arise between the said JOHN HAM[M]OND and my Executor touching or concerning my making provision for him according to a certain Agreement in Writing by me entered into for that purpose Then and in such case I give and bequeath unto the said JOHN HAM[M]OND the further Sum of Twenty Pounds a year to be paid him Quarterly by my said Executor during his natural life in full satisfaction of such Agreement and all the Legacies before herein given and bequeathed to him

Also I give and bequeath to SARAH NYE Wife of THOMAS NYE of WEST CHILTINGTON aforesaid Weaver the Sum of Five Pounds to be paid her by my said Executor within Six Months next after my Decease

Also I give and bequeath to the poor of the said parish of WEST CHILTINGTON Five Poundsto be paid by my said Executor to ROBERT SAIRES and JOHN DUKEof WEST CHILTINGTON aforesaid and to be by them paid and divided amongst such poor

And I do hereby Order Will and Direct that in case any or either of the person or persons to whom I have hereby given or bequeathed any Legacy or Legacies shall happen to dye before such Legacy or Legacies shall become due and payable that tha same shall go to and be paid to the Execotors Administrators or Assigns of him her or them so dying And I do hereby give and bequeath the same accordingly

And lastly all the rest residue and remainder of my Corn Cattle Goods Chattles and Estate of what nature or kind soever I give devise and bequeath unto the said CLEMENT UPPERTON whom I make constitute and appoint whole and sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former or other Will or Wills by me made And do hereby appoint the said THOMAS BENNETT and JOHN SAIRES Overseers or Trustees thereof to see the same duly performed and executed And to be aiding and assisting my said Executor in the due Execution hereof In Witness whereof I the said ISAAC HAMMOND have to this my last Will and Testament contained in Four Sides or Sheets of paper besides this last Side or Sheet sett my Hand and Seal the Second Day of April In the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Seventy One ISAAC HAMMOND Signed Sealed Published and Declared by the said ISAAC HAMMOND as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who inpresence and at his request subscribed our Names as Witnesses thereto WM WHEELER JOHN WOODMAN The Mark of JOHN STEER.
