Will of William Stace (alias Shether) of Warbleton

In the name of God amen The sixteenth day of November 1597 I William Stace alias Shether of the parish of Warbleton within the county of Sussex yeoman being sick in body but of sound and perfect memory and be thanked God do ordain and make this my last will and testament in manner and form following

First I will and bequeath my soul to God hoping to be saved by the merits of Christ only and my body I will to the earth from whence it came.

Item I will to the poor of the parish of Warbleton 3s 4d to be bestowed at the disposition of my executrix.

Item I will to Margaret my youngest daughter by my first wife the sum of £10 of good and lawful money of England to be paid to her within the space of two years next after my decease.

Item I will unto my three daughters by my last wife Joane Elinor and Elizabeth the sum of £10 apiece of good and lawful money of England to be paid unto them and every one of them when they shall attain unto the age of sixteen years or at the day of their marriage which shall first happen and if any of my three daughters Joane Ellinor Elizabeth do happen to end this before their several ages of sixteen years then my will is that her portion shall be divided between the other two and if it chance to pass that two of my three daughters Joane Ellinor Elizabeth do end this life before their several ages of sixteen or the day of their marriage then my will is that their said portions shall be and remain to her that longest doth live.

Item all the residue of my goods my cattels legacies and my debts unbequeathed my debts being paid and my will fulfilled I will unto Katheryne my last wife whom I make my sole executrix of this my last will and testament.

I make and ordain Thomas Stolion of Warbleton aforesaid gent and Thomas Golding of Warbleton likewise mine overseers of this my last will and testament.
