Will of Richard Arberye of Warbleton

In the name of God amen. The fifth day of January 1590 I Richard Arberye of the parish of Warbleton in the county of Sussex kemstare being sick in body but whole in mind and of perfect remembrance thanks be given to Almighty God do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following

First I bequeath my soul unto Almighty God my creator hoping and believing steadfastly that through the death and passion of his only begotten son Jesus Christ to have a joyful Resurrection and to be an inheritor of the kingdom of heaven and my body to be buried in the churchyard where it shall please God to call me.

Item I will and bequeath unto Edward my son £10 of good and lawful money of England to be paid by my executrix into the hands of John Medherste my brother-in-law within two years next after my decease and I will that my brother-in-law John Medherste shall enter into sufficient bonds unto my executrix to pay the foresaid legacy of £10 unto Edward my son when he shall accomplish the age of twenty-one years.

Item I will unto Joane my daughter £3 6s 8d of good and lawful money of England to be paid by my executrix unto her at the age of twenty-one years or at the day of her marriage the which shall come first.

Item I will unto Sara my daughter £3 6s 8d 8d of good and lawful money of England to be paid by my executrix unto her at the age of twenty-one years or at the day of her marriage the which shall come first

And after my will is that if any of my sons and daughters do fortune to die before the death of their mother then I will that the one of them to be the others heir.

Item I will unto Joane my daughter one great chest which was my mother's.

Item I will that if Edward my son shall happen to die before he shall accomplish the age of twenty-one years then my very will is that my brother-in-law John Medherste shall pay back again the foresaid legacy of £10 given by Edward my son unto Alice my wife within one year after the decease of Edward my son.

All the residue of my goods and cattells my debts und legacies paid and my children brought up in the fear of God I will unto Alice my wife whom I do make my sole executrix &c.

And I do ordain and appoint my well beloved in Christ John Hobem and Richard Elliard my brother in law to be my trusty overseers according to the true meaning of the same to the uttermost of their power.
