Will of Henry Stroker of Warbleton

Date signed: 20 May 1590, Probate date: 25 May 1593

In the name of God Amen, the twentieth day of May in the thirty-second year of the reign of our sovereign lady Elizabeth I Henrye Stroker of Warbleton in the county of Sussex being of good and perfect remembrance thanks be given to Almighty God do make and declare this my last will and. testament in manner and form following,

First I bequeath my soul unto Almighty God my maker and redeemer and my body to the earth from when it first took beginning.

Item I give and bequeath unto Henrye Stroker my son my best cupboard my boarded chest which I commonly use myself my best featherbed and two pairs of sheet with all that belongeth to it two platters two pewter dishes a saucer and a candlestick my best iron pot one iron plate one iron brandiron a pair of pothooks with the bar of iron whereon they hang a great spit and £5 of money which said legacies shall be paid and delivered unto him at the age of twenty-one years. Further my will is that Henry Stroker my son shall have £5 of money which shall be paid and delivered by my executor unto him when he shall come to the age of sixteen years aforesaid.

Item I give unto Margarett my daughter one little press cupboard.

Item I give unto my daughter Dorothie my best great chest one featherbed one bolster two pair of sheets and two blankets two pewter dishes and two platters a sauser and a candlestick my best brass pan a spit and a brandiron and five marks of money to be paid unto her at the age of twenty-three years.

Item I give unto Agnes Stroker my daughter one cupboard one little chest one flock bed one pair sheets one blanket one coverlet two platters two pewter dishes one sauser one candlestick one brass posnett one skillet of brass one brandiron and five marks of money to be paid unto her at the age of twenty-three years.

Item I give unto Elizabeth my daughter one great chest next unto the best a flock bed two pair of sheets one coverlet one blanket two pillowcoats four platters two pewter dishes one candlestick one sauser one brandiron one posnett one skillet of brass five marks of money to be paid unto her at the age of eighteen years.

Further my will is that every one of my daughters aforesaid shall have two ewes and two lambs over and above the portions before given and bequeathed to be employed by my executor to the most profit that my be for my said children until they come to the age aforesaid provided that if any of my children die before they come to age to receive their portions then my will i that those which be alive shall have six or four portions equally to be divided among them.

The residue of all my goods and cattles my debts paid and legacies performed I will and bequeath unto Elizabeth my wife whom I make and ordain executrix of this my last will and testament provided always that if the said Elizabeth my wife shall happen to marry before my said children shall come to age to receive their portions given unto them item my will is that he that shall marry with her shall put in sufficient sureties to my overseers hereafter named for the payment of the said legacies according to this my last will. And if she will not or cannot put in sureties then my will is that my overseers shall have my childrens stock towards their bringing up until they come to such age as is aforesaid.

I ordain and make Richard Stroker and Anthony Stroker my overseers and either of them to have for their pains 10s apiece.

Memorandum that this postscript interlined and amended is to be put and referred to the place noted by this mark being done in perfect remembrance and in the presence of us: Richard Harmer Thomas Martin Richard Dounton Caleb Burdot and others.
