Will of John Oliver of Warbleton

First I will and bequeath my soul unto Almighty God my Saviour and Redeemer by whose death and passion I am assured and undoubted hope of a glorious Resurrection and my body to be buried within the churchyard of Dallington or elsewhere it shall please God to call me.

Poor mans box to the use of the poor people 2 shillings.

Bestowed at burial as much bread as will be made by one bushel of wheat and also one whole cheese with such portion of Beare as is requisite for the ? expense of the sum.

William Oliver eldest son my two best oxen my best cow with one two yearing heiffer bullock which said heffer I would have to be delivered unto my son within the space of three years next after my decease my best feather bed and bolster with all the furniture thereof belonging my best brass pot one brass kettle containing by estimation six gallons in measure und two pewter platters and two pewter dishes at 21 years.

Edward Oliver my youngest son: two kine the second best one flock bed and one feather bolster and furniture one brass pann of ten gallons and two pewter platters two pewter dishes three pairs canvas sheets of the best at 21.

If Joane my wife be with child of a man child …....so then my son Edward be ?demissed of the tenement and land wherein I now dwell and inhabit that then I will my son Edward £10 at 21 of all my lands lying and being in Warbleton

If wifes child a mayden child then the £10 above written to remain unto her to be paid at fourteen. And if it fortune my wife not to be with child then the £10 to remain to my three daughters divided equally at fourteen.

In my dwelling house in Dallington one joyned bedstool and three plain bedsteddles and four tables four forms one cupboard now standing in the hall one burning furnace all the painted cloths there and in my house in Warbleton four bedsteddles one table one querne for malt and one iron fyer plate and all other implements in the said house to be found.

Item I will that there be levied out of all my lands in Warbleton towards the making of a new brick chimney there to my tenement called Kniges the sum of £6 to be done immediately after my decease. From land in Warbleton for use of three daughters £18 within the term of four years equally divided. Cattells and credit not bestowed my debts first paid and legacies fulfilled unto Joane my wife my sole executrix for the bringing up of my children well and honestly with meat and drink and clothes house in ample manner maintained until son be 21.

Overseers. William Stace als Sheather of Warblwton yeoman William James of Dallington draper. Granted full power and authority for the use and behalf of my said children.

Executrix to pay their expenses - to the two Williams 10s apiece. If my executrix find not sufficient goods und cattels to perform this my present testament to make sale of forty cords of underwood standing and being upon Pipnoke in Warbleton.
