Will of John Pont of Warbleton

Date signed: 16 Jun 1561, Probate date: 22 Jul 1561

In the name of God amen, the sixteenth day of June and in the year of our lord god 1561 I John Pont of the parish of Warbleton in the county of Sussex and in the diocese of Chichester being sick of body and of good and perfect remembrance thanks be given to the omnipotent god do make and ordain and constitute this my present last will and testament in manner and form following,

First and principally I give and bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God my maker and redeemer and my body to be buried within the churchyard of Warbleton or where it shall please God.

Item I give to the poor men's box 20d.

Also I give to Rychard my son all my lands and tenements with their appurtenances set lying and being within the parish of Warbleton called the Reedes to have and to hold all the foresaid lands and tenements with all and singular their appurtenances to Rychard PONT my son his heirs and assigns and to the only behofe use and ... of the same Rychard of his heirs and of his assigns forever after my decease.

Item I give and bequeath to the said Rychard my son two steers four ewes of age one cow and eight sheep.

Also I give and bequeath to Joan PONT my daughter £5 to be paid out of my land called Whytefeldes and to be paid four ?nobles a year until the said £5 be paid.

Item I give and bequeath to the said Jone my daughter a cow and six sheep.

Item I give and bequeath to Constantes PONT my daughter one cow and a heifer cow four sheep and 20s. to be paid out of my land called Whytefeldes.

Item I give to Thomas GOULDING a cow and four wether teggs.

Also I give and bequeath to Rychard CADE my servant a twelve-monthing heifer and four sheep.

Item I will to Dorothy GOULDYNG a heifer of one year of age.

The residue of all my goods cattells and debts after my decease paid my funeral expenses performed and these my present legacies contained in this my present testament fulfilled I give and bequeath wholly unto …… of Agnes my wife and Thomas my sone whom I make and consent to be my sole executors to see this my present last will and testament to be faithfully executed and fulfilled Also I will that Edward Averye shall be my overseer and he to have for his pains 10s
