This is the last will and testament of me John Medherst of Warbleton made the sixteenth day of May in anno domini 1596.

Item I give unto the poor of the parish of Warbleton 12d

Item I give unto my son Richard MEDHERST one acre of wheat/?oat of the best

Item I give unto Elizabeth MEDHERST my daughter one cow the best she can choose

All the rest of my goods my will is shall be sold by Robert AVERYE, Thomas MEDHERST and Thomas MARTIN my trusty friends and it being sold shall be delivered into the hands of William MEDHERST my brother for the behalf of my five daughters Elizabeth, Charratye, Susan, Mary and Joane equally to be divided between them portion and portion alike when they shall come to their several ages of eighteen years or at their several days of marriage which ever first shall happen.M

Item my will is that when my goods are sold and this seen where it will rise my brothers William and Thomas with Robert AVERY and Thomas MARTIN shall set down what every one of my daughters shall have.

Item my will is that if I depart this transitory life that then my brother William MEDHERST shall have my house and lands until my son Richard shall come to the age of twenty-one years towards the bringing up of him and the residue of my children according to my surrender.

Item my will and my mind is that my brother William shall-enter into bond to my brother Thomas MEDHERST for the payment of my children their portions as they shall come to their several ages of …... and my very will is that if any of my daughters do happen to depart his life before they come to their ages above said that then her or their portion or portions so departed shall be equally divided among the residue of my daughters that shall accomplish their ages above said.

Item I constitute and appoint William MEDHERST my brother to be mine executor of this present last will and testament.

Also I appoint Robert AVERYE and Thomas MEDHERST and Thomas MARTIN to be overseers of this my will and testament and they to have for every day that they shall spend about my witness their charges borne by my executor
