Will of Herbert Watts of Warbleton

In the name of god amen, I Harbert Watts being sick and weak in body yet notwithstanding of good and perfect remembrance lauds an2 praises be to Almighty God do ordain and make and declare my last will and testament in these words following.

First I bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God the father maker and creator of the same trusting and steadfastly believing through and by his merit and worthiness of the death and passion of his son Jesus Christ my -saviour and redeemer to have remission and forgiveness of all my sins and to have a joyful resurrection both of body and soul to everlasting life and my hope is laid up in store also in token of the said resurrection I will my body to the earth there christianly to be buried.

And touching my worldly and moveable goods I will that they should be bestowed as works of faith in manner hereafter ensuing and to the poor men's box' of the said parish for their relief 12d.

Item I will and give to any one of my three sons Richard Harbert and John WATTS £4 of usual money of England apiece to be paid by my executrix at the feast of Pentecost next coming after the date hereof into the hands of Richard WATTS my brother whom I will incontinent to put the same to increase for the profit and commodity of my said sons and to put surety to my said executrix for the true and sure repayment of the same unto every one of them at such time as they shall accomplish and come to their several ages at twenty-one years that is to say to every one of them £4 with the increase rising and coming of the same and if it fortune any one of them to die then he or they that do survive to be heirs and to have his or their portion. And if they do all die than my will is that all the said bequests together with the increase to remain to my two daughters then living.

Item I will to my two daughters Alice and Johane WATTS £3 apiece to be paid unto each of them by my executrix at the days of their marriages or when they shall accomplish the age of twenty years which first shall chance to come about and if one of them to die before the said days and ages then my will is that the portion that so doth to remain unto her that shall live and if they both do die then I will it shall remain to my sons then living equally to be shared between them at such days and years as it should have been paid to my daughters if they had lived.

Item I will and give unto Margerye my wife all my moveable goods and cattells. Item I do ordain constitute make and appoint Margerye my said wife the sole executrix &c. and she to pay all my debts legacies and bequests as my trust is in her to do and to see this my will and testament performed and fulfilled according to the true …….. thereof.

Item I do desire William WALKER my father-in-law and Richard WATTS my brother to be overseers hereof and aid and help my executrix as she shall have need.

In witness hereof 'I have caused this to be written read and declared for my last will and testament in the presence of John FERMOR parson of Warbleton and Richard WATTS whom I do desire to be witnesses thereof.
