Will of John Brightridge of Warbleton

In the name of God Amen I John Brightridge of Warbleton in the County of Sussex yeoman being in good health in body & of sound & perfect mind & memory blessed be God do make and ordaine this my last will & testam’t in maner & forme following, that is to say. Imprimis I comitt my soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it me & my body to the earth to be decently buried interred at the discretion of my eatrix hereinafter named. Item I give to my three daughters Elizabeth the wife of John Durrant, Anne the wife of Thomas Davison & Sarah the wife of Thomas Wood each of them a ring of the value of tenn shillings. Item I give & bequeath unto my sd daughter Anne Davison twenty pounds of good & lawfull money of Great Brittain to be pd within six months after my decease. Item I give & bequeath all the rest & residue of my personall estate whatsoever unto my very loveing wife Mary Brightridge whom I make the sole executrix of this my last Will. Item I give devise & bequeath unto my sd loveing wife & her heires forever provided she do not dispose of it other wise than to the use of her self & some or one of our children or grandchildren & their heires all those four pieces or parcell of land called Little Horeham conteyning by estimacon twenty acres more or less situate in Hurstmonceux in the County abovesd & now in my own occupacon. And also two pieces or parcells of land called Burnt Cross Land in Hurstmonceux aforesd in my occupacon conteyning by estimacon four acres more or less upon the entire confidence that she will performe those private instructions which I have given her by word of mouth. Item my will is that my sd wife shall have her dwelling in the house where in I now dwell together with the rents issues & proffits of all my lands thereto belonging for one whole year next after my decease without paying any thing for it according to the my agreemt with the abovesd John Durrant before his marriage with my daughter. In witness whereof I have hereunto put my hand & seal this eleventh day of October in the eight yeare of our p’sent Majesties reigne Annoq Dni 1709. John Brightridge.
