In the Name of God Amen I JOHN HUMPHREY ALS ADAMS of WEST CHILTINGTON in the County of Sussex cordwainer being infirm in Body but of sound and disposing Mind Memory and Understanding do make and declare my last Will and Testament in manner and form following, that is to say, After recommending my Soul unto Almighty God my most merciful Creator and my Body to the Earth to be decently buried I dispose of my Worldly Estate as follows viz:

My Messuage or Tenement Garden and Orchard at GAY STREET in the Occupation of GEORGE DUKE And my Barn Hovel and several Closes Fields or Parcels of Land called PART OF PRINCES lying near MARRINGDEAN LANE and now in the Occupation of MR THOMAS CRAGG with the Appurtenances both held of the Manor of NYTIMBER it is my Will and Meaning shall discend to my sister MARY POCOCK wife of WILLIAM POCOCK of LEOMISTER in the said County of Sussex Husbandman and her Heirs according to the Custom of the said Manor and I do hereby as much as by Law I can give and devise the same unto my said Sister MARY POCOCK

Also I give and devise unto my kinswoman ANNE BATCHELLOR wife of RICHARD BATCHELLOR of WEST CHILTINGTON aforesaid Butcher and to her Heirs for ever All that my Messuage or Tenement Garden and Croft of Land called LITTLE BIRDS or by whatsoever other Name or Names the same is or may be called or known situate in WEST CHILTINGTON and held of the Manor of CHILTINGTON now in the Occupation of WILLIAM MITTEN (which I have surrendered to the use of my Will)

And all the rest residue and remainder of my real and personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever of what nature or kind soever the same may be I give devise and bequeath unto the said ANN BATCHELLOR and her Mother MARY HUMPHREY ALS ADAMS equally to be divided between them share and share alike And I do make nominate and appoint the said MARY HUMPHREY ALS ADAMS and ANN BATCHELLOR Executrixes of this my last Will and Testament But my Will and Meaning is that if the said MARY HUMPHREY ALS ADAMS shall happen to dye in my Life time that the said ANN BATCHELLOR shall have and enjoy the whole of my Estate not intended for my sister MARY POCOCK and her Heirs In Witness whereof I the said JOHN HUMPHREY ALS ADAMS the Testator have to this my last Will and Testament set my Hand and Seal this first Day of September in the Year of our Lord One thousand and eight hundred – JOHN HUMPHREY ALIS ADAMS – Signed sealed published and declared by the said JOHN HUMPHREY ALS ADAMS as and for his last Will and Testament in the Presence of WM HALE JNO S ELLIS WM JOHNSON

This Will was proved before Mr James Baden Carpenter Clerk Surrogate &c On the twenty second Day of July in the year of our Lord 1801 By the Oath of ANN BATCHELLOR one of the Executrixes therein named Power being reserved for granting the like to the other Executrix [illeg] &c To whom &c well and truly &c sworn saving &c
