ROBERT JOHNSON Clarke
Chichester Archdeaconry Court - Original Will - G99
ROGER HOMFRY – the Testator. Roger was probably one of the sons of John Humfry of Pulborough, who died in 1566. In his Will John mentioned 4 sons: Roger, Reynold, John and Thomas, and a brother William. He also referred to his wife Margaret, possibly the mother of Roger, and his brothers.
THOMAS HOMFRY – Brother of the Testator. He was probably the Thomas Adams alias Humphrey who died in West Chiltington in 1614. [NB The Adams and Humphrey names were linked for many years in this family in West Chiltington. The earliest reference I have found to the 2 names together to date was in a church court case in 1606, and the 2 names continued to be used together up to the 19th century, although increasingly different branches of the family used one name or the other, alone.
JOHN HOMFRY – Brother of the Testator. He was probably the John Adams alias Humphrey who died in West Chiltington in 1612.
ANNES HOMFRY – Kinswoman of the Testator, daughter of his brother John. The John who died in West Chiltington in 1612, mentioned, in his Will, his eldest daughter Angnes Benat. Agnes Adams married Thomas Benet in West Chiltington on 3 February 1594/5
WILLIAM HOMFRY – the Testator’s Uncle. Nothing further is known about him, except the references to him in the Wills of his brother John (1566) and his nephew Roger.
Unknown.
