Will of John Turner of West Chiltington

In the name of God Amen I JOHN TURNER of CHILTINGTON in Sussex being of Sound memory and understanding doe this Eight day of JANUARY 1703[/4] make this my last will and Testament in manner and forme Following First I bequeath my Soule to God trusting in his mercy in and through Jesus Christ for Salvation and my body to the Earth in hope of happy resurrection to be buried according to our office of the Church of England at the Discretion of my Executor hereafter named

Item I give unto my Grand daughter MARY TURNER the sum[m]e of Five pounds to be paid her when she shall attaine the age of Eighteen years or be married which shall happen first

Item I give unto my Daughter in law SARAH TURNER Ten Shillings to be paid her within a Twelve month after my wifes decease

Item I give to my Cousen JOHN NORWOOD of WESTWICKHAM in KENT and to MARY LIFFORD of the same Twenty Shillings apiece to be paid within a Twelve months after my wifes decease

Item I give to THOMAS CAPELYN and SAMUEL ADAMS Twenty shillings apiece to be paid within a Twelve months after my wifes decease

Item I give unto ELIZABETH CAPELYN and THOMAS CAPELYN the younger Ten Shillings apiece to be paid within a Twelve months after my wifes decease

Item I give unto THOMAS SARAH and ELIZABETH BUTCHER Children of my Daughter in law SARAH TURNER Twenty Shillings to be equally divided between them and to be paid after my wifes decease

Item my Will is that my Grandson DANIEL CAPELYN doe give bond of the penaltie of Two Hundred and Fifty pounds to pay to my Aged and loveing wife the Interest or use of all my moneys due upon bond During her life, and likewise to suffer her quietly and peaceably to enjoy all my household goods and all my Chattells during her life and my Will is that he give this said Bond under the penalty aforesaid before he proves this my Will in the Spirituall Court or any other Court and if he doe give such bond then I doe give him all the rest of my goods and Chattells and doe make him the said DANIEL CAPELYN full and whole Executor of this my last will and Testament But if he refuse to give such bond as aforesaid then I doe make my loving wife MARY Full and whole Executrix of this my last will and Testament

In Witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and Seale the day and year above written JOHN TURNER his marke – Signed Sealed and published as his last will and Testament with these words my Soule interlined between the Fourth and Fifth line before the Signing Sealing and publication hereof in the p[re]sence of us WM JENDEN JOHN EDSAW JOHN EDSAW
