ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON PEOPLE MENTIONED IN THE WILL

Robert Ganton, the testator, was buried in West Chiltington on 2 December 1611

Mary and Margaret Ganton – the Testator’s daughters. Mary and Margaret Gawghtton, presumably twins, were baptised in West Chiltington on 26 July 1599. No parent’s names were recorded in the BT. However, there is a record of a burial of a Mary Gawghtton on 7 August 1599. Could that be their mother?

John Brooker, the Testator’s stepson. Was he the John Brooker [no parents names recorded] baptised in West Chiltington on 5 August 1593? The information comes from a Chasllen transcript of a BT that is not now available – did he misread the entry or was it wrongly written in the original BT?

Samuel Brooker – the Testator’s stepson. He was born in West Chiltington in 1595. He was baptised there on 20 --- 1595 [the month is unavailable, but apparently between August to October]. Did he marry Jane Gates in Thakeham in 1619?

William Brooker – the Testator’s stepson. Was he the William Brooker of Thakeham who married Jane Mills of Warminghurst in Chichester St Peter the Great on 4 February 1619/20? Jane wife of William Brooker was buried in West Chiltington on 23 May 1638. Did William then remarry on 23 June 1638, one month after his wife’s burial, to Agnes Pannett, a widow, in Warminghurst? Was he the William Brooker of Chiltington whose Will was proved in 1658/9?

Alice Brooker – the Testator’s stepdaughter. Was she the Alice Brooker who married Nicholas French in West Chiltington on 24 February 1612/3?

NB A Cisle Gaughton was buried in West Chiltington on 24 October 1591. Could she have been another daughter of Robert Ganton and his wife?
