Will of Robert Aylwyn of Treyford

In the name of God Amen the nyne and twentith daie of May one thowsand sixe hundred and seaven in the yeares of the Reigne of oure Sovereigne Lorde Kinge James &c the fifte and of Scotlande the fowrtithe I Robert Aylwyn of Treforde in the Countie of Sussex Gent beinge sicke in bodye but of good and perfytt remembranns (thanckes be Allmightie God therefore) doe make this my last will and Testament in manner and forme followinge. First I comytte my Soule into the handes of Jesus Christe my maker and redeemer by whose deathe and passion I hope to be saved and my bodie to be buried in Christian buriall in the Channcell of the churche of Treford as neare unto my father as conveinientlie yt maye be layded. Item I geve unto the cathedrall Churche of Chichester twelve pence. Item I geve unto the poore of the parrishe of Treford twentie shillings. Item I give unto the poore of Paghm tenn shillings. Item I unto the poore of Singleton five shillings. Item I geve unto the parrishe churche of Treford fyve shillings. Item I geve unto my sonne Robert my annuytie of sixe and twentie poundes by yeare to him and to his heyres yssuinge and payable owte of the Mannor of Ipinge. And yf Peter Bettisworthe of Colmer in the Countie of South gent or his heyres doe or shall paie the some of twoe hundred and threescore poundes accordinge to a provisoe in the Indenture of Mortgage made betwene me and the said Peter Bettisworthe then I likewise geve and bequeathe the same twoe hundred and threescore poundes unto my sayde sonne Robert forever. Alsoe I geve unto my sayde sonne Robert the tenements wth thapptenncs that I have in mortgage of my unckle Thomas Lybbarde lyeinge and beinge in Petworthe yf the said Thomas Lybbarde or his heyres doe not paye the monye due unto me accordinge to the daie tyme and place appointed for the payment thereof in the said Indenture of Mortgage and yf the saide Thomas Lybbarde doe paye the some of one hundred poundes accordinge to the trewe meaninge of the same Indenture then my will and mynde is and I doe likewise give the saide hundred poundes unto my sayde sonne foren’ the which annuytye and the sayde somes of monie I will and my meaninge is shalbe payde unto him at his age of one and twentie yeeres. And yf my sayde sonne Robert doe happen to die before he shall accomplishe thage of one and twentie yeeres then my mynde and will ys that this porcon shalbe devided in manner and forme followeinge (vizt) The one half thereof to be devided betwene Anne, Ellen and Katherine Aylwyn my daughters and the other half to remayne unto my sonne William Aylwyn. Item I geve and bequeathe unto my daughter Anne Aylwyn the some of twoe hundred poundes to be payde unto her at the age of eightene yeeres or daie of marriadge wch shall firste happen. Item I geve unto my daughter Ellen Aylwyn the some of twoe hundred poundes to be payde unto hir at the age of eightene yeares or at her daye of marriage wch shall firste happen. Item I geve unto my daughters Katherine, Eliz and Agnes the some of one hundred poundes a peece to be likewise payde unto them at the severall ages of eightene yeares or severall dayes of marryage wch shall firste happen. And if any of my sayde daughters Anne, Ellen, Katherine, Eliz or Agnes doe happen to die before they shall accomplishe their severall ages of eightene yeeres or be married as aforesaid then my will and meaninge is that hir parte and porcon by this my Will soe given soe deceassinge shall remaine and goe unto my other daughters then lyvinge to be equallie devided amongest them. Item I geve unto Jane Turner my servainte fourtie shillings a yeare to be payde unto hir quarterlie by equall porcons duringe hir naturall lief. Item I give unto Jo: Bryant and John Parker my servints fyftye shillings a peece of lawfull money of England to be payde unto them wthin one moneth after my deceasse and eache of them one quarter of barley to be lykewise payde unto them wthin one moneth next after my deceasse. Item I geve unto my servinte Thomas Cockquerell one quarter of barley to be paide unto him wthin one moneth next after my deceasse. Item I geve unto Jo: Hodgys my boye twentie shillings to be payde wthin one moneth next after my deceasse. Item I will that Barbara Aylwyn my neece shall have hir stocke and porcon wch was given unto hir by my fathers will to be payde unto hir wthin three monethes next after my deceasse. Item I geve unto Katherine Bayllye my servinte one cowe provided alwayes and my will and meaninge is that Rich: Bettisworthe and Arthure Bettisworthe gent and Rich: Aylwyn thelder and Rich: Aylwyn the younger shalbe my overseers to this my last will. And I doe give them full power & aurthoritie by this my last will and testament to have and take all my goodes cattells chattells howshould stuff money debts moveables and unmoveables for the payment of all my debts legacies and bequests by me given and bequeathed in this my Will and Testament and to putt owte the same to the best pffitt and comoditie untill my children doe come to their severall ages or be married as aforesaid and soe maynteyne them duringe their severall ages or untill their marriages as aforesaid accordinge to their estate and condicon. And when they or any of them shall accomplishe his or theire age herein sett for the payment of his or theire porcons to give an accompte of the same unto my executor named. And yf any benefytte or proffitt be made of the said goodes and cattells over and besides the porcons herein geven more then shalbe needfull to mainteine and bringe them up as aforesaid or yf the said goodes doe or shall amounte to more then the porcons herein given my legacies paide and funerall discharged then I will the same to be equallie devided amonge my five daughters. Item I give unto William Aylwyn my eldest sonne all my plate whome I make and ordaine executor of this my laste will and Testament. Item I geve unto my overseers aforenamed for their paines twentie shillings a peece. Robert Allwine. Item whereas I have soulde unto Richard Aylwyn and George Sarys all my woode tymber and trees groweinge and beinge in Seets woode for the some of one hundred and twentye poundes whereof I have receyved of them the some of fowerscore and tenn poundes my full mynde and will ys that my overseers aforenamed in my will shall repaye unto the sayde Richard Allwyn and George Sarys the said some of fowerscore and tenn poundes wthin one moneth next after my deceasse yf I doe happen to dye before they have felled and carried awaie the same woods & tymber they makinge accompte reasonablie of the woode and tymber that they have alredy felled and taken to my saide overseers.
