Will of Abraham Heasman of Ticehurst

In the name of God Amen I Abraham Heasman of Ticehurst in the county of Sussex, surgeon, do make and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form following (that is to say), First and principally I resign my soul into the hands of almighty God that gave it and my body to be decently buried at the discretion of my executor hereinafter named, and as for such worldly estate both real and personal with which it hath pleased God to bless me, I give and dispose thereof in manner and form following (that is to say):

First I give and devise unto my loving son Thomas Heasman and his heirs all that messuage or tenement, barn, buildings, garden, orchards and four several pieces or parcels of land thereunto belonging or appertaining commonly called or known by the name of Pages containing by estimation eight acres more or less situate or lying and being in the said parish of Ticehurst and now in the tenure or occupation of Henry Elliot or his assigns, and also all that messuage or tenement, barn, buildings, garden and four pieces or parcels of land thereunto belonging or appertaining commonly called or known by the name of the Vineyard containing by estimation four acres more or less situate, lying and being in Ticehurst aforesaid and now in my own occupation.

To hold unto my said son Thomas Heasman his heirs and assigns forever subject and liable nevertheless to owe annuity or yearly rent charge of ten pounds of lawful money of Great Britain to be paid unto my loving wife Elizabeth Heasman yearly and every year during the term of her natural life and I do hereby charge all and singular the said messuages or tenements land and premises with the payment of the same and my mind and will further is that my said son Thomas Heasman shall allow unto my said loving wife Elizabeth Heasman her dwelling in the house I now live in called the Vineyard together with all the ? of furniture and otherwise during the term of her natural life but if they shall happen to disagree and shall not choose to live together then my will and desire is that he shall find and provide her a convenient house and furniture near the parish church of Ticehurst aforesaid and allow her forty shillings a year over and above the said annuity of ten pounds before mentioned and I do hereby likewise will and desire that my said son Thomas Heasman shall maintain, educate and bring up my grand daughter Ann Russell until she attains to the age of one and twenty years or to allow her forty shillings a year until she attains to the said age of one and twenty years;

Also I give and bequeath unto my son in law, Stephen Russell the sum of five pounds of lawful money of Great Britain to be paid him by my executor herein after named within six months next after my decease;

Also I give and bequeath unto my grandchildren Ann Russell, Elizabeth Russell, Stephen Russell and Deborah Russell the sum of three hundred pounds of like lawful money equally to be divided between them share and share alike as they attain to their several and respective ages of one and twenty years apiece and if any of them shall happen to die before they shall come of age then I will and desire that his her or their share so dying shall be paid to the surviving children share and share alike as they shall severally attain their said several and respective ages of one and twenty years apiece by my executor herein after named.

Also I give and bequeath unto my brother Richard Heasman the sum of five pounds of like lawful money;

Also I give and bequeath unto my daughter in law Sarah now wife of Thomas Wynch, the sum of ten pounds of like lawful money of Great Britain.

Also I give and bequeath unto my son in law John Barnes the sum of five pounds of like lawful money of Great Britain. All which said last mentioned legacies to be paid by my executor hereinafter named within six months next after my decease. All the rest, residue and remainder of my goods, chattels, rights, credits and personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever my debts, legacies, funeral expenses and probate of this my will I give and bequeath unto my said son Thomas Heasman whom I do hereby make, constitute, ordain and appoint full and sole executor of this my last will and testament;

And I do hereby my said son in law John Barnes to be overseer of this my last will and testament to see the due execution of the same;

And lastly I do hereby revoke, disannul and make void all former and other wills and testaments by me at any time heretofore made and do publish and declare this and only this to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I the said Abraham Heasman, the testator, have to this my last will and testament contained in two sheets of paper set my hand and seal (that is to say) to the first sheet my hand and to this last sheet my hand and seal this eighth day of January in the ninth year of the reign of our sovereign Lord George the Second by the grace of God of Great Britain, France and Ireland, King, Defender of the faith and so forth and in the year of our Lord 1735.

Signed, sealed, published, and declared by the said Abraham Heasman the testator to be his last will and testament. In the presence of us who in the presence of the said testator have subscribed our names as witnesses hereunto: John Weston, Robert Cane, Robert Vine

June 11 1737 Thomas Heasman was sworn executor of this will and to him was committed the right and power of executing the same by us Geo: Gordon
