SEVERAL Persons whose Names are thereunto subscribed; Electors of the Borough of Steyning in the County of Sussex; having this Day presented their Petition to the House of Commons, setting forth; That on the Seventh Day of March, One thousand seven hundred and ninety-one; the Select Committee of the House, appointed to try the Merits of the Petition of Sir John Honywood, Baronet, and John Curtis, Esquire, complaining of an undue Election and Return for the said Borough of Steyning, reported to the House, that the Right of Election for the said Borough was "in the Inhabitants of ancient Houses and Houses built on the Scites of ancient Houses, within the said Borough of Steyning, being Householders, paying Scot and Lot, and not receiving Alms:" That James Martin Lloyd, Esq; and certain other Persons, on the First Day of this instant February, presented their Petition to the House, stating the said Right of Election as reported by the said Select Committee, and that the Petitioners were not satisfied with the said Resolutions and that they were desirous to be admitted Parties to oppose the said Right of Election, and to have the Benefit of the Statute in that Behalf made and provided. The Petitioners Humbly insist, that the Right of Election declared by the said Select Committee is the ancient and true Right of Election for the said Borough of Steyning: The Petitioners therefore humbly pray the House that they may be admitted as Parties to defend such Right of Election so reported to the House as aforesaid, and that they may have such further and other Relief as to the Wisdom of the House shall seem meet. I do hereby give Notice, that the House has appointed Monday the Twelfth Day of March next, at Three of the Cloak in the Afternoon, to take the said Petition into consideration, (being the same Time as the Petition of James Martin Lloyd, Esq; and others in ordered to be considered. ) Given under my hand the Eighth Day of February, One thousand seven hundred and ninety-two. HENRY ADDINGTON, Speaker.
