Harrison's description (1911):

ST. JOHN THE EVANGELIST. Restored in 1863. The tower is Saxon; the rest of the building mainly E.E., with arcades altered at later period; window, N. porch, and font, Perp. The stone staircase to rood-loft is one of the best in the county. Note: stoup; old glass in little window over chancel arch; old wooden gallery in tower; 15th c. bench ends; two tombs; quaint inscription to Thomas Jackson, the Duck of Richmond's huntsman, 1774. Reg. 1558.
