Will of John Jupp of West Chiltington

In the name of God Amen I.JOHN JUPP of CONEYHURST in the parish of WEST CHILTINGTON in the county of SUSSEX yeoman being not well in body but of sound & perfect mind & memory (thanks be given to God for it) But calling to remembrance the certainty of death & the uncertainty of the time when Doe make & ordaine this my last Will & Testament in manner & forme following (that is to say) First I com[m]itt my soul into the hands of Almighty God who at first gave itin hopes of Eternall Salvac[i]on throu[g[h th’only sufficient merits & intercession of Jesus Christ my Saviour & Redeemer & my body to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executor herein after menc[i]oned And as to that porc[i]on of worldly goods substance & Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me I give devise & bequeath of as followeth

Imprimis I will that all my Debts and Funerall expenses be paid & discharged by my Executor herein after named Item I give devise & bequeath unto my loving Wife JANE JUPP the sum of Threescore pounds of good & lawfull money of Great Britain to be paid unto her by my Executor within One whole year next after my decease Also I give & bequeath unto the said JANE JUPP my Wife all the Linnen in my house that she has made or caused to be made ever since she hath been my Wife Also the best Bedd in the Inner Chamber with all that there unto belongeth Also the Chest in the Inner Chamber & the Box which she brought with her Also the Side Saddle Pillion & Bridle & also the Clock in the hall & the Desk in the kitchen Provided that if my said Wife JANE should happen to be with Child at the time of my decease & it happens to be a Daughter I give & bequeath unto the said Daughter the sum of One Hundred & Fifty pounds of good & lawfull money of Great Britain (if the said Daughter shall happen to live) to be paid unto the said JANE JUPP my Wife within six months next after the s[ai]d Daughter shall be borne But if it shall happen to be a son then I give devise & bequeath unto him all that my Messuage or Tenement Barne Lands & premises with th'appurtenances which I now live in called CONEYHURST & DANIELS situate lying & being in WEST CHILTINGTON aforesaid To have & to hold to him & his heires forever

I give & bequeath unto SARA PALMER the now wife of GEORGE PALMER of ANGMERING in the County aforesaid Mercer the sum[m] of Twenty shillings of lawfull money of Great Britain to be paid unto her within Twelve months after my decease

Item I give & bequeath unto JOHN EDMONDS of ANGMERING aforesaid Butcher the sum[m] of Forty shilling of like lawfull money to be paid unto him within six months after my decease

Item I give & bequeath unto MARY EDMONDS of ANGMERING aforesaid Spinster the sum[m] of Forty shilling of like lawfull money to be paid unto him within six months after my decease

Item I give & bequeath unto ROBERT EDMONDS, GEORGE EDMONDS & JANE EDMONDS sons & daughter of ROBERT & SARAH EDMONDS of ANGMERING aforesaid Butcher the sum[m] of Forty shillings a peece to be paid unto them when they shall attaine to the age of One & Twenty years apiece gradually as they shall attaine to their said age of One & Twenty years

Item I give & bequeath unto ANNE EDMONDS of ANGMERING aforesaid the sum[m] of Three pounds of like lawfull money to be paid unto her when and so soon as she shall attaine to the age of One & Twenty years

Item I give & bequeath.unto my godaughter MARY JUPP the sum[m] of Three pounds of good & lawfull money of Great Britain to be paid unto her when she shall attain to the age of One & Twenty years

I give & bequeath unto my cousins EDWARD & WILLIAM JUPP the sum[m] of Ten pounds a peece of like lawfull money to be paid unto them severally when they shall attaine to their severall ages of One & Twenty years

Item I give & bequeath.unto JOANE JUPP ANNE JUPP & SUSAN JUPP Daughters of my Brother EDWARD JUPP & JOANE his wife to each & every One of them the sum[m] of Forty shillings a peece to be paid unto them at their several ages of One & Twenty years

Item I give & bequeath unto MARY STEYNING Daughter of WILLIAM & JANE STEYNING of BILLINGSHURST in the County aforesaid yeoman the sum[m] of Ten shillings to be paid unto her when she shall attaine to the age of One & Twenty years

Item I give & bequeath unto the Poor of the parish of WEST CHILTINGTON aforesaid the sum[m] of Twenty shillings (to them which receive no Collection of & from the said Parish) to be paid unto them at the discretion of my Executor within six months after my decease

Item I doe.constitute & appoint my trusty and well beloved Friends WILLIAM STEYNING & JOHN NALDRETT both of the parish of BILLINGSHURST in the County aforesaid yeomen Trustees of this my last Will & Testament to see the Legacies afores[ai]d paid & discharged & for their troubles I give to each of them the sum[m] of Five shillings to be paid unto them within One month after my decease

Item I make constitute & ordaine my Cousin JOHN JUPP of RUDGWICK in the County aforesaid whole & sole Executor of this my last Will & Testament to whom I give and bequeath all my goods & chattels and personall Estate whatsoever unbequeathed & desireing him well & truly to pay my Debts & Legacies in manner aforesaid In Witness whereof I the said JOHN JUPP have to this my last Will & Testament sett my hand & Seal this Fourteenth Day of APRIL in the year of our Lord God One Thousand Seven Hundred& Twelve & in the Eleventh year of the reign of our Lady Queen ANNE &c JOHN JUPP Signed Sealed published & declared by the said JOHN JUPP to be his last Will & Testament in the p[re]sence of RICHARD GREENFIELD JOHN DEAN SARA NALDRETT
