Will of John Goldring of Rogate

In the name of God Amen

I, John Goldring, of Slade in the parish of Rogate in the county of Sussex, yeoman, being weak in body but of sound mind and memory, thanks be to almighty God, I do hereby make and ordain this my last will and testament in the following manner and form (that is to say)

First of all I do will that all my debts and funeral expenses shall be first satisfied.

Secondly I give and devise to my beloved son Richard Goldring all that messuages lands and premises with their and every of their appurtenances situate in the parish of Rogate aforesaid ? ? for and during the term of his natural life and from and after his decease to the Heirs of his body lawfully to be begotten and forwant of with issue Then I give and devise the said messuages lands and premises unto my grandson John Goldring son of my son William Goldring and his heirs for ever.

Thirdly I give and devise unto my grandson George Goldring son of my son George Goldring ? all that my messuages garden and orchard and also a small plot of land thereto adjoining and belonging lying in Slade aforesaid and now in my own occupation to hold to him the said George Goldring and his heirs forever and I also give bequeath unto my said grandson George Goldring the sum of ten pounds to repair the above mentioned premises to be paid him by me executor hereinafter named within three months after my decease and my will is that my said grandson George Goldring shall permit and suffer Nathan Woodyer to continue remain and dwell in the said messuage and premises so given to the said George one year rent free in consideration of their good services to me.

Fourthly I give and bequeath unto my daughter in law Ann Goldring widow the sum of twenty pounds to be paid her in manner following (that is to say) five pounds every year at two equal payments in the year till the same is fully satisfied and paid.

Fifthly I give and bequeath unto my daughter Rose, wife of Edward Wright, the sum of thirty pounds to be paid her five pounds thereof every year at two equal payments in the year till the same is fully satisfied and paid with said payments. My will is shall be to her my said daughter Rose and not to her husband and the receipt of the said Rose shall be executors discharge.

Sixthly I give and bequeath unto my grandson John Wright the sum of twenty pounds to be paid to him at the age of twenty one years and not before.

Seventhly I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Cobb the sum of fifty pounds to be paid within six months after my decease.

Eighthly I give and bequeath unto my beloved son Nicholas Goldring the sum of forty pounds to be paid within six months after my decease.

Ninthly I give and bequeath unto my grandson Richard Goldring son of my son Thomas Goldring deceased the sum of twenty pounds at this age of twenty one years.

Tenthly I give and bequeath unto my daughter Ann Ressall and my grandson John Ressall five pounds a piece to be paid within six months after my decease. Eleventhly I give my best great coat to my son Richard and my wearing apparrell to the young children of my son George Goldring deceased and my bed and furniture and other goods in my chamber to the cripple child of my said son George.

Lastly all the rest of my goods chattels stocks credits money derivities for money and all my estate of what finds so ever not before disposed of I give and bequeath unto my beloved son William Goldring whom I make ordain and appoint sole executor to this this my said will hereby revoking all former wills and testaments by me heretofore made in witness whereof that said John Goldring have to this my said will set my hand and seal this eighteenth day of February in the year of our lord one thousand seven hundred and thirty six

This will was proved at London on the fifteenth day of April in the year of our lord one thousand seven hundred and thirty seven before the right worshipful John Bettesworth Doctor of laws and ? keeper of Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oath of William Goldring the son of the deceased and sole executor named in the said will to whom administration was granted of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased he being first sworn by commission well and duly to administer the same.
