Notes about this will:

WSRO - S DEAN 42 1614

Testator - THOMAS ADAMS alias HUMPHREY. Thomas was probably a son of John Humfry who died in Pulborough in 1566, and his wife Margaret. He was also probably a brother of Roger Humfry of West Chiltington who died in 1574, and John Adams alias Humphrey who died in West Chiltington in 1612. Thomas married a (unknown) daughter of John Beech of West Chiltington; probably a year or two before 1588, as John Beach (who died in 1588, referred to Thomas as his son in law, in his Will, and also referred to Thomas’ son John, but not to any other children of the marriage. Thomas was to be one of the Supervisors of John’s Will, and was also a witness to it. Thomas was buried in West Chiltington on 16 October 1614

Son – JOHN ADAMS alias HUMPHREY. Probably born shortly before 1588 as he was mentioned in the Will (1588) of his maternal grandfather, John Beech.

Son – THOMAS. Was he the Thomas Humfry baptised in West Chiltington in 1595? No parent’s names were recorded on the BT. Was he the Thomas Adams who married Marye Turner, in West Chiltington, on 21 May 1615?

Daughter – MARGARET. Nothing is currently known about her.

Overseer – ANTHONY HAMMON of WEST CHILTINGTON. He was probably the Anthony Hammon baptised in West Chiltington on 28 September 1571. No parent’s names are recorded in the baptism entry in the 1571 BT, but he was probably a son of Richard Hammond, who died in West Chiltington in 1588, and his wife Alice (maiden surname currently unknown), who died in West Chiltington in 1609 He married twice, the first time to Margaret Barnard, in West Chiltington on 3 May 1596, and the second time to Susan Lee, in Billingshurst on 20 January 1603/4. He later moved to Billingshurst, where he was living at the time he made his Will in 1633/4. It’s not known when he died, but his Will was proved in 1640, so he died somewhen between 1633/4 – 1640.

Overseer – EDMUND SAYERS of PULBOROUGH

He was probably the Edmund Sayer who was buried in Pulborough on 22 May 1652.
