And I direct that all my first debts and funeral and testamentary expenses shall be paid and satisfied and subject to the payment thereof I give and bequeath my household goods, furniture, linen and implements of household and all my monies, securities and personal estate unto my said wife for her own use and benefit and to be at her disposal.

Also from and immediately after the termination of the estate for life of my said wife (who will have a right to hold the same by her b…...) I hereby authorize, empower and direct the said William Stringer and Ephraim Bulbeck and the survivor of them to make sale and absolutely dispose of my two copyhold or customary tenements, dwelling houses, outbuildings, gardens and appurtenances to them respectively belonging, situate lying and being at Nyetimber aforesaid and held of the manor of Nyetimber, one of the said tenements being in my own occupation and the other in the occupation of John Hickary, and all other my copyhold or customary hereditaments, if any, either together or in separate lots and either by public auction or private contract for the best price or prices in money that can be reasonably had or gotten for the same.

And upon receipt of the purchase money for the said premises or any part or parts thereof to convey and assure the same unto the purchaser or purchasers thereof or as he or they shall direct or appoint. And I hereby declare that the receipt of the said William Stringer and Ephraim Bulbeck or the survivor of them or his executors or administrators shall effectually discharge the purchasers or purchaser of the said premises from so much money as in or by such receipt or receipts shall be expressed or acknowledged to be received and that such purchaser or purchasers shall not afterwards be bound to see to the application of the said purchase money nor be answerable for any loss, misapplication or non-application thereof.

And as to the monies which shall arise by or from such sale or sales of my said copyhold, tenements or dwelling houses, hereditaments and premises, it is my will and I direct that they, the said William Stringer and Ephraim Bulbeck or the survivor of them, his executors or administrators, do and shall divide and pay the same in nine equal shares between and among the following persons, videlicet my brother and sisters William, Rachel, Grace, Joanna and Charlotte and my wife’s brothers and sisters Daniel Verrion , Robert Verrion, Elizabeth the wife of William Bennett, and Jane Grenyer the daughter of my said wife’s late sister Harriet, and their respective executors and administrators.

And if any or either of the above named nine legatees shall die in my lifetime and leave issue living or born in due time after his or her decease, then and in every such case I direct that the share of the deceased legatee shall be paid unto or applied for the benefit of his or her issue whether of full age or not in such way and manner as my executors and trustees or executor and trustee for the time being shall in their or his uncontrolled judgment and discretion think proper. But if any or either of the said legatees shall die in my lifetime and leave no such issue then and in every such case I direct that the share of the said legatee so dying shall be held in trust for the survivors or others of them.

And I give and bequeath all the said trust monies and premises accordingly and I hereby declare that my said executors and trustees shall and may from time to time retain to and reimburse themselves all costs and expenses which they shall be put unto in or about the execution of the trusts hereby in them reposed, and that each of them shall be answerable for his or her own acts, deeds and defaults only.
