War Office, 2nd December, 1919. With, reference to the announcement of the undermentioned awards which appeared in the London Gazette of the 12th March, 1919, the following are the acts of gallantry for which the awards were made: AWARDED THE DISTINGUISHED CONDUCT MEDAL. 202681 Sjfc. F. McHardy, M. M. , l/4th Bn. , Gord. Highrs, , T. F. (Littlehampton). For courage, initiative and able leadership after all the officers of his company had become casualties. On the 26th October, when a counter-attack drove in the outpost line at Famars he collected and reorganised his men on the right of the village, pushed forward, and established the former line. Next day, during a further counter-attack, he showed the utmost disregard for personal danger in the streets, swept by machine-gun and rifle fire at close range. He organised parties to fire from the windows of houses, thereby inflicting heavy casualties on the enemy.
