The community was originally established at Wapping in 1857 and transferred to Sussex in 1887. The chapel was added later, the architect being a cousin of Charles E Kempe. On closure of the buildings in Haywards Heath, having become too large for the community, they relocated to Rempstone, 3 miles north of Loughborough.
